Two years earlier I watched Pedro Rodriguez hustle a BRM around a rain-soaked Longford circuit in Tasmania for the last round of the Tasman Series for that year. He finished second to an inspired Piers Courage in McLaren MP4 (formula 2 car) by 55 seconds. The rain was such that it favoured the smaller capacity car of Courage - Clark and Hill in Lotus 49s finished 5th and 6th - such was the rain that day. I still remember Pedro's deerstalker hat that he habitually wore in the pits.

@AndrewYac2 ай бұрын
Contrary to stereotypes, in Mexico City and its surrounding areas it rains a lot, and in some mountain chains and small villages it does snow in the winter, so it makes sense Also, Ricardo was even better than Pedro, but he tragically died in the test session of the 1962 Mexican GP, he won many motorcycle championships, the Nassau Championship, got 2nd overall in Le Mans, 2nd in a non-championship F1 race, annd almost won an F1 race

El ojos de gato 😺
@pedro917 Жыл бұрын
'Ojos de gato' was the nickname of Ricardo Rodriguez. After the 1960 Le Mans 24H podium ceremony, winner Gendebien (with Paul Frère) said to Ricardo (finished 2nd with André Pilette) that he was a real champion, that his pure driving style during the night under the appalling conditions was extraordinary and that his eyes were as good as an extra pair of ‘Marchals’ (high beam headlights used on most cars in period). There lies the origin of Ricardo’s nickname ‘cat eyes’ (ojos de gato) as the logo of (SEV) Marchal is a cat with eyes wide open. The Rodriguez family took it with pride, especially coming from Gendebien and the French press took note and wrote about the 'cat eyes'.
