Rest in peace, Paul Reubens. Great monologue. When that pizza gets delivered and he starts talking to the delivery guy in gibberish Spanish and then asked Suzanne and Frankie if "they were having some, too?", I fell on the floor laughing.

@Fuck KZbin it's actually the 35th anniversary of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure though, not the character. Pee-Wee Herman made his debut at Groundlings in 1977 and his first television special was on HBO in 1981. He also had a couple scenes in Cheech and Chong's Next Movie in 1980. Wasn't trying to criticize your comment. Just thought people might be interested to know just how long he's been doing the character.
@gir5o14 жыл бұрын
@Fuck KZbin lol. Sorry, wasn't trying to trigger you. You assume a lot. You seem to think anyone who gets directed by youtube to a Pee-Wee Herman video knows his whole career. When I found out he first introduced the character in 77 I thought that was kind of interesting and I was just trying to share some knowledge. Perhaps I did come off a little arrogant, but I honestly had the best intentions. Perhaps YOU are the one who needs to get over yourself?

I can't believe I watched the entire thing, well, minus skipping over the singing parts. I never realized how special Paul was and his ability to interact with people as Pee Wee. I love his adult humor mixed in with his normal banter. He was edgy for adults and kid like enough for children to enjoy as well. I think that is where things fell apart for him, you cross the line into children's entertainment and you have to keep your nose clean, look at all the narrators for Thomas the Tank Engine, you can come from being controversial, but once you make the crossover, your personal life can't go back into being called into question. Pee Wee would have shined even more if he would have been a few decades younger and in todays culture, he could have been huge in a more burlesque adult manner, not needing to worry about his personal life and choices being called into question.

Pee wee’s playhouse was everything good about the 80’s and my childhood. I knew the song by heart and when it would come on Saturday mornings I would jump up, turn the sound all the way up, do the Pee Wee dance, and sing every word at the top of my lungs (much to my Dad’s chagrin who was in kitchen drinking his coffee-if you know the song then you understand 🤣). Yes the show was fun and wacky, with lots of kooky characters, but the humor was actually very advanced for a kids show; it didn’t talk down to kids like we were stupid. Filled with double entendres, lessons on how to be a good person, the “inside joke” angle with the secret word, lots of high level thinking, sophisticated humor concepts, and was wholly and completely inventive and original. It was just so great. If you didn’t live in that time and have it as a child, it’s hard to understand just how great it was. But it was Fantastic. Paul Reubens (Pee Wee) started as a stand up comic and his humor came from that perspective even though it was for kids. It still had an intelligence, wit and sarcasm to it that put it shoulders above other kids show and still does. I think that’s why his live Pee Wee shows all sell out and still go over so well with adults, besides the nostalgia aspect. It truly was One of a kind. There Will never be another Paul Reubens or a show like Pee Wee’s Playhouse. I still miss it, some 35 years later. The crap they spoon feed to kids these days can’t even come near it. Long live the king, Mr. Pee Wee Herman 👑

Something I recently learned (2023) was that the person who sang the Pee-Wee's Playhouse theme song was NOT Ellen Shaw, as listed in the credits. She was actually the assistant to the girl who REALLY sang the intro: Cyndi Lauper! Apparently, Cyndi was asked to sing the song, but her manager (or someone who thought he controlled her), didn't want Cyndi to be associated with such a silly song - thought it might hurt her record sales. Well, while that guy was in some meeting in another part of the studio, Cyndi recorded the song anyway. They used Cyndi's recording, but listed Ellen Shaw as the singer in the credits.

The gay rumors were borne of a part in a film where he played a gay character. He was not playing Paul Reubens. He was also long rumored to be engaged to Debi Mazar, although they broke up before ever tying the knot. So between the fictitious gay character he played, and his real life lack of marriage, those rumors were spawned by a crap article writer for a gay mag looking to drum up some trash rag drama. The rumor was never verified either. Fake news. Perhaps he was bisexual? Who knows. But after suffering two terribly embarrassing sexual public indecency charges, he opted to stay completely mum on all things sexual in the public eye from then on, and you can't blame him. Also consider the fact that, even before that happened, he was faithfully committed to the character of PeeWee, whose biggest personality hinge point was a childish innocence... so in order to avoid sullying or watering down his famous screen character, he never discussed anything about his sex life, which has been a theorized reason for his silence on his relationship with Mazar as well. Although one can only place so much weight on this excuse... no man is going to live the life of a neuter character in order to protect it. Oh and yes, he was definitely flirting, even though it was done in character. Bi or not, he enjoyed the ladies... and these two were sexy and fun for him to banter with.

And he smoked with them too 🤣 I never met them but My uncle said that Paul is very different in real life than his Pee Wee character-much more introverted but SUPER nice, and SUPER witty and smart. And he’s not gay, he’s bi. So there 🤣

I'm curious what the date of this is. She wasn't on for very long to already have a week of guest hosts. Did they take her off for a week as they decided if they were firing her or not? Pee-wee's monologue made it pretty clear that she was still the official host.
@jedijones Жыл бұрын
Another channel has a copy of this episode, and it has a commercial for an episode of 21 Jump Street that originally aired on May 24, 1987. A book online says Suzanne's special aired in May 1987, and Suzanne refers to it as airing "at the end of the month" here. That would seem to suggest this episode aired the week after Joan's final episode, which was on May 15, 1987. Pee-wee's jokes about Joan make it sound like she's just on vacation though, which is a little confusing. It's possible, I guess, that this episode had originally aired a few weeks earlier, but was rerun the week after Joan's final episode. The most logical conclusion seems to be, though, that this did indeed air the week after Joan left, and was during the period that the show had rotating guest hosts before settling on Arsenio.

The whole Halloween show tha night was fantastic. Firstly, Joan Rivers as Guest Host and guests for the whole show feature PeeWeee Herman, Phyiiiis Diller as Dr. Ruth and Elvira, Misstriss of the Dark. What a lineup and what a show.

Pee wee's hair looks a little different here, it looks a little longer and more gelled back, he usually has super short hair, like sporting his usual crew cut.
