Very informative. At the same time there is a colonial mindset which is visible in this video. Let's not forget that prior to Portuguese colonization of Kerala Muziris was the Largest port in the world and probably the richest place. However, the Europeans tried to colonize India and engaged in monopolizing trade and engaged in many restrictive practices that ruined our economy. In the bargain they have done tremendous damage to free trade and economy of Kerala. Notwithstanding compared to Portuguese and the English, the Dutch were more tolerant.

The real reason behind English, Dutch alliance against Portuguese was not merely trade monopoly but to be more precise both Dutch and English countries became protestant countries against pope while Portugal Spain etc. Were ardent catholic countries.so much so the enmity in Europe between them carried over to international scene and so both protestant ruling countries combined against a catholic country .this was the socio political scenario of the then Europe. Not now .Europe changed a lot now but unfortunately we Indians are only entering that stage where Europe abandoned the sate of socio political climate ..

I was born in fort kochi , but I have never seen a fort there. No fort at vypin, pallippuram, thankassery or even their remains... Were they calling a compound wall as fort ? I have seen real forts in Rajasthan that survived through centuries. However, there is still a dutch cemetry at fort kochi near my residence, protected by archaeology department.

Near the Dutch Cemetery, at the entrance to the Fort Kochi beach, the remains of Fort William existed 70, 80 years ago. It must be still there.
