I'm a third-grade teacher, and sometimes when I want to transition to a new subject I'll speak softly and '...shall we,' and then yell SHALL WE?! The kids jump and I just love that they have no idea that it's a reference, they just think I'm a crazy person who likes to raise his voice for no reason. I crack up inside every time.

The creepy, possibly sociopathic nature of the character, though funny, comes out in this scene. I like the fact that Reubens didn't entirely tone down Pee Wee's unlikeable aspects, as glimpsed in the Cheech and Chong movie he debuted in or his original adult stage show, when he tailored him to suit a family/kid audience.

Its the perfect effect. In the beginning he's just a happy-go-lucky, carefree man-child. He's on top of the world, he's friendly, everybody likes him, his life is perfect. But the bike getting stolen broke him, set him against his friends, turned him into a lunatic. Its really a warning about Gaslighting when you think about it, because he was actually right all along. Well, not all along, it wasn't the Soviets, but he moved on to Francis pretty quickly

It's literally a perfect movie. Even though Tim Burton went on to make movies with pathos and all kinds of gothic set design, this ludicrous movie about a man-child looking for his bike still stands as the best in my opinion. To appreciate just how hard it is to make a movie like this work, look at similar movies with absurd weirdos as the main character such as "Chairman of the Board" with Carrotop or any Pauley Shore movie. Awful movies, yet PeeWee remains a classic.

I remember watching this scene when I was a child and didnt understand it until someone broke into my car 20+ years later when I was an adult and stole my king sized snickers candy bar, clearly on video. Imagine how I felt talking to the police about my car being broken into and when they asked what was stolen and I told them a candy bar. He asked what kind and I said a snickers, but a king sized one. He asked, you called us because someone stole a candy bar, I'm like, fuck no, I called cause someone broke into my car. The messed thing is as the thief rummaged through my car, they were eating the candy bar and left chocolatety finger prints on the glovebox and door handle. We all laughed in the serious but comical moment.
