Scattering Dan's Ashes - with thanks to RNLI, Weston-Super-Mare

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea.
It costs £447,000 a day, that’s £163.5 Million in 2018, to operate the charities lifesaving service. As a charity we are reliant on voluntary donations to power our lifesaving work which we provide through an army of volunteers.
On Saturday 8th June 2019, the ashes of Dan Thomas were scattered in Weston Bay by the volunteers of RNLI Weston-super-Mare, following his battle with cancer in September 2018.
Dan, from Dudley, West Midlands, was known for vlogging under the username ‘PeeWeeToms’ where his channel has more than 150,000 subscribers.
He began the account to provide "inspiration, motivation or some get up".
His mission was also to encourage people to go to the doctor if they were concerned about their health to nip serious illness in the bud.
He died of a rare terminal cancer called sarcomatoid carcinoma after first being diagnosed in July 2015 and had numerous surgeries and therapies. It was his own condition that he reported on in his clips.
His loyal followers would be told “don’t give up, don’t give in”.
One of Dan's favourite places to visit was Weston-super-Mare, especially around the Birnbeck Island and pier area.
In memory of Dan, his family asked for a video recording to be made of the ashes scattering ceremony by the Weston RNLI crew, to share with his followers on his page. They also asked for donations to the Weston volunteers who are in desperate need of vital life-saving equipment and a new lifeboat station. This is because the old lifeboat station on Birnbeck Island became inaccessible due to the old pier being unsafe to walk on.
The RNLI volunteers have operated out of shipping containers on the seafront since 2014.

I take medication for severe anxiety, panic disorder and agoraphobia, which makes it near impossible for me to produce tears. I get choked up, but rarely tears. On the day of Dan's passing, however, my eyes welled up for some reason, and I'd only known him six months. What a genuine and charismatic human being. I wish his family all the best. ✌️

I just found Dan. I have watched some of his journey, and it gives me great peace knowing he is in a better place. Sometimes it is hard to understand why God gives some of us battles we can't overcome, but if I've learned one thing it is we come to understand in due time. I think we all know why Dan was chosen. For one, he had the strength to face the battle head on. Two, he changed a lot of lives in the process and for the better. I have just had shivers sent down my spine watching this. I am sitting in the adjustable chair given to me by the widow of my much loved next door neighbour who died from Parkinson’s. I have neuropathic pain in all of my joints which subside enough by the afternoon to allow me to stitch. I bought one of Dan’s don’t give in Don’t give up t shirts - sadly, although ordered before he left us, I received it afterwards. I have not worn it for a while, but I put it on this morning. This video came up in my suggested videos and I watched it in silence remembering Dan and the pleasure I took from his videos. He came into my life at a time when I was coming to terms with having to retire early and abruptly from a much loved career. I was 49 when that happened to me. This funny, bubbly, gorgeous young Man came into my life through my iPad screen and gave me a kick up my arse. He gave me a different lens to view my life through. He showed me there was a different way to view what was happening to me. I have time now to spend with my teenagers and be there for them when they need me - not when I happen to be around. I am with my animals all the time now. Our home is peaceful and quiet. I am now able to accept any GP and dental appointment. I am in contact with old and new friends via social media. The list goes on and on. Your boy helped me so so much. I hope that gives you some comfort. By the way though, I will be embroidering some punctuation marks on my t shirt - it gives me the irrits as an old fashioned grammarian! I couldn't imagine losing a son or daughter before my time. It shows the inner strength that we humans have to be able to handle and carry on our lives without our beloved family member. I always point people to Dans page whenever they are feeling down to show them that if Dan could go through life with a smile on his face despite a serious illness, then they can too.
