Some of the things that are really remarkable about this routine: 1) Gravity blasts on the drumstick laid down on the rim (all the pro drummers I've watched see this and call it out as a new technique) 2) playing the rims across both drums for a groove 3) the duallist bass drum pedal 4) the one-handed drum rolls using the side of the drum as a fulcrum 5) the dual snare drums, with one just loosened way up to stand in for a tom 6) The dual high hats on either side 7) the stick tricks 8) the 16th notes on the second high hat with one hand (2 sticks) 9) the ability to play a drum cover that *enhances* and respects the original track rather than overtaking it 10) El Estepario Siberiano's absolute zen while playing

Excellent points. His precision is crazy. I’d add stamina cuz you know his arm and shoulder was burning like a MF after those 16 notes, twice no less

Absolute zen - he is in what my circles call flow state, no concentration, no effort, he's just letting the sounds he wants to make flow from his body through the medium of drums through pure muscle memory from lots and lots of good practice

Longtime musician but not a drummer so take my words with a grain of salt. I think this dude is special for several reasons. The technical precision is top tier, plus he has the imagination to use that proficiency to complement a piece of music rather than just overwhelm it with a million notes.

His name is Jorge (George) He has his own band (new, nothing released yet). He used to play with a Spanish metal band Saratoga. What he’s doing is extremely technical. Those gravity blasts are insanely tight. That pedal is NOT easy to learn at all - it takes a little of limb independence to get it correct; plus it adds an additional beat that you have to account for (timing). What he’s also a beast at is his creativity. He does a lot of technical stuff that either hasn’t been fine before or done in the way he’s performing it. He has the speed but it’s his accuracy and stamina (those 16 notes hits on the cymbal with two sticks has to leave a massive burn in his shoulder). Is he in an elite class of drummers? I’d say yes. I watched him on his Twitch stream learn a Rush song he had never heard before, I’m just three hours. And by ear, he doesn’t read or write music. It was near perfect by the last hour. Yeah, he’s god mode

You should watch his 1M subscriber video on your own time (or react to it if you have input on musician struggles?) where he talks about how he got to where he is. Basically, he started playing drums at 12, got pretty good, but went to college for Political Science/Sociology, and was acing school until they (Spanish gov't) changed the rule so you have to attend at least 80% of the lectures as well as pass the final exam, and since he was also in a local band, he couldn't make it to class and failed out of college even though he was passing the exams with no problem. He lost his band gig, and he got really depressed and just practiced 8-10 hrs/day hoping things would change. Obviously that alone didn't bring him out of depression and eventually he wanted to un-alive himself, but felt like he didn't want to waste all the time he practiced, so he started his channel to be a kind of record of his skill before he went through with it. He got so much support from his videos that it opened new doors to him, and he's fully invested in this career now. Very brave of him to be completely open about his struggles, especially as a young man in his 20s, and I hope it inspires others to think again and put off a decision like that until they get whatever help or healing they need. But, yes, he is one of the most talked-about drummers out there, and drum legends are praising him as he has truly raised the bar on what top drumming looks like.

Creativity, precision, power, and I think most of all he's innovative. Incredibly unique style. From how he holds his sticks, to incorporating several sticks in the same pattern like in this video, in other videos he even turns his snare drum over to use the chain to scrape over as an added texture to the instrument. There is something that drummers call 'independence', it means the level that each of your limbs can operate separate of each other. There are lots of drummers that can do cool stuff, like learn a song perfectly first time, play so fast it will make your ears bleed, come up with poly rhythms that no one previously imagined...but El Estepario has the greatest Independence I have ever seen, may be ever to be seen because you know without some one having to use a science instrument that each limb is perfectly in the pocket.

You kinda got it at the end. 😂😂 The pedal has two beaters, which you pointed out. It also has two switches by his heel. When he hits one, the pedal acts like a normal drum pedal. When he hits the switch on the right side of his heel, it acts like a double pedal - One hit with the foot = two hits on the bass drum. This dude is so far above anyone else on the planet that it's ridiculous. He's a machine, LEGIT!!! Love your reaction to this!

The Duelist pedal is almost like another beat, it's a relatively new tool and most drummers just can't figure it out. As to the questions: - El Estapario is a very good drummer, but he'll tell you he isn't the best. Personally he's in my top 3. - He is doing a lot of very creative things with stick control, grips, and mixing instruments - His playstyle is...unlike anyone else - Crazy limb independence and capable of poly-rhythms. As a note, this video and most of his take 30-50 takes.

It's very common for a single bass drum to have two beaters hitting it. The difference is that they are usually activated by two separate foot pedals - ie no cheating. You got to hit them to get the hits. His special pedal is delivering two hits on the drum for every single tap of his foot. It's not fair to say it's cheating, especially when he highlights the pedal, but he is getting a 2 for 1 deal there. To be clear - the guy is an amazing drummer and showman. Not my style, but he's clearly in a league of his own.
