The original was actually Screaming Jay hawkins. She holds a candle with his pic on in the beginning of the song. She was 9 years old here. Just turn 9 i belive. She won Norway got talent when she was 8. Started the auditions when she was only 7. Not only is she singing this song she arranged it. At 9! She did not follow the original. Its actually far from it. And yes she is bearfoot she always performs bearfoot. There is actually a really touching story behind it and she wrote a book about it called Mellom to hjerter (between two hearts) Youngest to ever publish a book in Norway at age 9. I Agree its abit weird with kids in show biz especially when its the parents pushing them and they dont really want any of it. But this is all her. She actually asked her mom to put her on Norways got talent when she was 6 or 7. She got a good family and people around her so im not as worried about her as i might have been with someone else. This girl is so mature for her age and really a role model and who kids should look up to instead of alot of these other "artist". When she won Norways got talent she gave away her price money to charity (500 k Nok (Norwegian kroner) about 45k us dollars) She speaks 4 languages. Norwegian, English, Japanese and since she got family from middle east she speaks one of the languages they speak there. (im not sure which one. Someone tell me if they know) OK there is so much to talk about with this girl that if i dont stop now i will never stop. Shes only 17 but she done so much.. Im a hip hop head but since i was born in Norway and watched her when she did Norways got talent i was kinda blown away and been following her ever since. (For about 10 year now) If you're going down the rabbit hole i suggest *Bohemian rhapsody * at Americans got talent the champions. (14 years old) She does her own rendition of it and its beautiful. Even Queen themselves tweeted on twitter "Wow, what a rendition" and gave her permission to record her version of the song. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. Angelina's been singing since she was 18 MONTHS old! Her mother took a video of her singing in bed, with a microphone, after listening to her sing a Whitney Houston song from another room for a couple minutes. She grabbed the camera and started filming because she thought it was so cute. Angelina is TOTALLY self-taught. She tells the story of when she was 2 years old and she couldn't sleep one night, so she asked her mother if she could borrow her laptop to watch KZbin videos. She came across Billie Holiday's video of "Gloomy Sunday". She admits that, if it wasn't for Billie Holiday, there wouldn't be an Angelina Jordan. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, introduced her to other artists of that time like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, etc. At 7 years old she auditioned for Norway Got Talent with "Gloomy Sunday", then went on to WIN NGT when she was 8 (she had a birthday during the competition). She had already appeared in live concerts and on TV in Norway, Germany and USA. She started singing at around 18 months, having heard her grandmother playing jazz and soul records. By age 3, watching one of the "Got Talent" shows, she announced to her mother that she was "going to sing for that Simon fella" (Simon Cowell - which she finally did on AGT Champions at age 13). Her parents were not musicians or coaches, Angelina pretty much chose her own path, with minimal voice coaching other than to protect her voice. AJ recorded her first album, featuring classic jazz covers, at the age of 12, and it reached the jazz charts in some countries. To date, there are now about 210 videos of her various performances from age 6 until present, age 17, with her first "proper" single with republic records released three weeks ago. I'm now aged 69, from a very musical family (my brother had hit records) and AJ is my favourite vocalist bar none. As you follow her journey, you will find that she can be a vocal chameleon, and one of the most versatile and emotive singers on planet earth. @@In_my_own_mind she speaks Norwegian because she was born there, speaks Farsi which is her Iranian grandmothers native tongue (she also spent time in Iran) speaks English like a native (lived in California for a short time) speaks some Japanese via her grandfather (her mother and uncle are 1/2 Japanese and both speak fluent Japanese and use to teach it) speaks some Swedish (her father is from Sweden) she is multicultural and all this would be missed if it was simply stated she was Norwegian.

My mother moved to England when my parents divorced, then back home to the USA. I’ve visited and lived in various countries growing up and to be with my father, including Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, France, Africa, the Caribbean islands, Central America….. All of where I’ve been has influenced me and who I am today. So I feel it is essential to know this about Angelina too. I hope this helps.

With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. She recently returned back to Norway and performed at a number of sold out concerts in which fans from around the world came to see her. Many of the fans there said she sounded better live in person and was a once in a lifetime experience. Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a poor shoeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. The girl then asked Angelina what her dreams were, Angelina answered that she wanted to be a superstar, and the girl said she would pray for her success. Since then, Angelina has performed barefoot in honor of that little girl and to those who are less fortunate around the world. She keeps this promise to this day. The first clip we see of her with a mike is one and a half. Her grandma was a child prodigy an artist and poet. She listened to jazz as she painted and baby sat. Angelina was born with perfect pitch. Her first clip in the studio singing I Who Have Nothing, she was 6. It was arranged as a treat. Her parents took alot of advice when she won Norways Got Talent. She entered at 7 was 8 by the final. Angelina is very close to her maternal grandmother, who is a well-known Iranian artist and a fan of jazz music, which Angelina listened to and began to explore on her own account before she was 2 years old. After listening on her tablet to artists she recognised from her grandma's collection, she would go on to select KZbin recommendations and soon became well versed in recordings made by legends of the jazz genre. When asked in 2013 who her musical influences were, 7-year-old Angelina cited Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra, in other words artists whose heyday predated even her grandmother! All of this goes to what experts have termed her 'vintage' style. She went on to enter 'Norway's Got Talent' as soon as she met the minimum age requirement and ultimately won a landslide victory by singing songs which were all first recorded at least 40 years before she was born. The original is 1956 "Screaming" Jay Hawkins. That is what the candle shows, though it goes by quickly. She recorded this at age 9 and it is her own arrangement based on the original. This blew me away when I first heard it. I kept playing it over. This was AFTER she auditioned for and won Norway's Got Talent at age 7/8. Seriously. Her audition piece was the Billie Holiday version of "Gloomy Sunday." Creedence did cover this. Nina Simone is a cover. You do need to hear the 1956 Screaming Jay Hawkins original---it will show you the musicality she applied to her arrangement. She once said the song was about "a desperate love." Angelina speaks three languages at the time of this video: Norwegian, Farsi, and English. Probably some Japanese. Her father is Swedish. Angelina was born and grew up in (mostly) Oslo. She does have family in California and is now, in 2023 at age 17, living in LA with her family for the sake of her career. Her family insisted on as normal a childhood as possible, with an insistence on completing school. At age 9, Angelina also wrote a book about her 6 year old exchange in Farsi with a homeless girl who had lost both parents to illness and now was weighing people in the streets to support her younger siblings. Screamin' Jay Hawkins wrote and performed the song. Angelina Jordan based her arrangement on that original. Angelina was born in 2006 and started singing at age eighteen months and is mostly self-taught. While she was living in the Middle East around age 6, she met a girl who had no shoes. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and has performed barefoot since then as a reminder of that experience. AJ is self-taught and there has been little to no coaching and training. She started singing in her crib at age 18 months (on camera). When she was 2 and 3, she walked around with a tablet selecting songs to listen to. He family is not musical but her grandmother, child prodigy in art and poetry, serves as her mentor and videographer. AJ was born in Norway and 1/2 Swedish, 1/4 Japanese, 1/4 Persian. She now resides in LA. She speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, some German, some Japanese and a lot of jazz. AJ has been designated a national treasure by Norway after she won Norway's Got Talent at age 8 (year before this track was recorded). The reason she has no shoes when performing is that when she was six she came over a young girl in the middle east who did not have shoes and was weighing people on the street to make money is possible to support her family. After some conversation with the young girl, (you can look it up, Angelina has done interviews}, Angelina. at six years of age took the shoes off her own feet and gave them to the young girl and swore she would not wear shoes when performing until all the children in the world could have shoes. If you delve any deeper into this child’s career, you will notice there is something very strange about her. She never gets nervous and talks about children as if she is not one of them. That’s because she is a Cosmic Avatar which explains who and what she is perfectly. I struggle with the same thing you guys brought up and thats how did she or people around her know that she could sing like this? Like how does a 9 year old even know this is possible! I heard she even wrote the arrangement for how she wanted to cover this song! And had to tell the band how she wanted them to play it! Like WTF? Thats insane! The dude on the candle is the original writer and singer . Screaming Jay Hawkings 1956. She played off him.! She's Scandinavian from Norway.! Living in LA.

No need to worry about her. Although she's still a minor, she got like 10 years of experience already, she's used to singing in front of thousands if not millions of people (e.g. FIFA awards). Many things have happened to her live on stage, be it voice cracks or performing hoarse due to a cold,... doesn't matter, people still love her and support her, especially her family. Her music label grants her artistic freedom. At this point she's "too big to fail".

Born Jan 10, 2006 in Oslo Norway. From her audition on Norway’s Got Talent (2014 - age 7 - Gloomy Sunday "Billy Holiday") through the final on America’s Got Talent The Champions (2020 - age 13 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Sir Elton John") and the 130+ videos in between you will not be disappointed. This includes three originals song: “What Is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” Since then she has done many new covers and now her new singles "Million Miles" and “7th Heaven”, along with her movie soundtrack "Mercy" from the motion picture “The Hating Game”. As well as her brilliant version of Elvis’s “Suspicious Mind”. My personal favorite is her cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die". Although “Mercy” is really growing on me. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Great reaction to 9 Angelina. When she entered school the teachers said that she had a unique voice and didn't want to ruin it for her so they taught her music theory instead (at 6 & she obviously understood) and what instruments she wanted to learn, she chose piano, flute and violin. In her preteen and teens she was taught and self taught guitar and electric guitar. We don't know if she still plays violin and flute though. I give new Angie reactors a welcome pack, please read. She chooses all her own songs & does all her own arrangements ever since she was very young, even when she did Screaming Jay Hawkins “I put a spell on you” at barely 9, even at 7 & 8 on NGT (Norway’s Got Talent). On AGT-C Angie made her outfit from silkscreen patterns of her grandma's art work when she was 13 back in Norway. She makes several of her other outfits for shows & concerts too. She also paints great, plays 5 instruments & speaks & sings 4+ languages, English being her 3rd. Angie turned 17 on 1-10-23. Angie is a very kind, giving, loving, respectful, humble & a big hearted Christian girl. Angelina taught herself to sing. Can't possibly teach a 9 year old to sing like Angelina. She has always created her own arrangements, like this one for the 1956 classic by Screamin Jay Hawkins, whose photo is on the candle Angelina is holding at the start of the video.

Angelina is mostly self taught. No singers or musicians in her family. She started studying the jazz greats on KZbin at about 2 or 3 after her Grandmother introduced her to jazz. Her only vocal training from what I understand was just to help her protect her voice.
