The Ace of Spades is considered the death card. Motörhead is technically a hard rock band. Lemmy never claimed to play metal. A good argument could be made that they are actually speed metal. Regardless their influence on metal is immense. Hard or Heavy, they are universally respected in the metal community.
@robr1354 ай бұрын
It's not that Lemmy never considered Motorhead metal, his outlook was "It's all rock and roll". He could listen to pearl jam, and then Thrash era Metallica, and see them as both a form of Rock despite the differences. His music speaks to this. One moment hes playing blues, the next punk rock, and then some speed metal, and even some ballads are thrown in. Its all just Rock n Roll ;)

When he finally got to hang out with Lemmy, he ended up throwing up because he was trying to keep up drinking (and couldn't lol). Alice Cooper said Lemmy was the smartest guy he ever met because all he did was read and take speed. Lem's lyrics were a cut above, especially on the topics of war, politics, and religion. He never held back and was a big inspiration to the mid 80s wave of thrash bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth etc. First time I saw Motorhead they were opening for Cooper, next two times they were headlining club tours. Motorhead was the heavy rock band that never sold millions of records like AC/DC or Kiss... but their music and attitude changed the metal/ rock scene forever... They influenced everybody in the 80's and beyond that became commercially successful, from Motley Crue & Metallica to Guns N' Roses & Nirvana... and beyond. They played faster than anyone else in the era of 1979 to 1982 and helped create the genre that became thrash metal or speed metal w/ the likes of Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Overkill, etc. Ian 'Lemmy' Kilmister (bass & vocals) was born in the UK and formed Motorhead in 1975 as a power rock trio... He was part of the British rock scene since he became a fan of American rock & roll music in the 50's listening to Elvis, Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry, etc... Lemmy actually saw The Beatles play at the Cavern Club in Liverpool before they became famous... they inspired him to join a band in the 60's called The Rockin' Vickers, where Lemmy played rhythm guitar... Around 1967, Lemmy moved to London and was hired as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix... His appetite for women, drugs, gambling and alcohol made him the stereotypical rock star, especially after he joined the UK band Hawkwind in 1971 on bass. It turned out Lemmy was good on bass and wrote his first original songs like the Hawkwind single 'Silver machine'... "Motorhead" was a song that he wrote & recorded for Hawkwind before he was fired from the band in 1975. Returning to England in '75, Lemmy formed Motorhead w/ Larry Wallis (guitar) and Lucas Fox (drums) ... but their early reviews were terrible. Motorhead recorded an album for Hawkwind's label and it was not released cos it was deemed "poor"... (It was released in 1979 as the album 'On Parole' after Motorhead became famous)... The music industry refused to give Motorhead a chance in 1976. But Lemmy and Motorhead's motto was "Born to lose, live to win" ... he enlisted new members Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor (drums) and 'Fast' Eddie Clarke (guitar) and recorded Motorhead's debut album in 1978... They shocked critics when their cover of 'Louie, Louie' (by The Kingsmen) became a hit single in the UK in '78. Motorhead were signed to UK label Bronze Records and released the albums 'Overkill' and 'Bomber' in 1979... their fast & furious style of rock became a sensation in the UK as they toured relentlessly, making very little money... It was their 1980 album 'Ace of Spades' that made the top 5 on the UK charts... Their 1981 live album 'No sleep til Hammersmith' shocked the critics again by charting at #1 in the UK. However, the drugs, booze and volatility in Motorhead ended up splitting them in 1982 from guitarist Eddie Clarke after the 'Iron Fist' album... Brian 'Robbo' Robertson (guitar) joined in 1983, but fans hated the former Thin Lizzy guitarist and he only recorded 1 album - 'Another perfect day' (1983)... Robertson left Motorhead by 1984 and drummer Philthy left w/ him. Motorhead announced a new line-up w/ 2 new guitarists - Mick 'Wurzel' Burston & Phillip 'Zoom' Campbell ... and Pete Gill (drums) joining Lemmy (bass & vocals) as Motorhead celebrated their 10th anniversary tour in 1985 w/ the 'No remorse' release... followed by a new album 'Orgasmatron' in 1986... Philthy (drums) rejoined Motorhead in 1987 for the "Rock n' roll" album and another live record 'No sleep at all' in 1988. Because of tax issues and bad business deals, Motorhead migrated to the USA in 1990 and parted ways w/ longtime manager Doug Smith... Lemmy also co-wrote songs for Ozzy Osbourne and was recognized as a brilliant lyricist... Motorhead released the album '1916' in 1991 and got a Grammy nomination... However, they saw all the band they had influenced sell millions of records... while Motorhead albums were barely making any major sales. Drummer Philthy was fired in '91 and Motorhead recorded "March or die" in 1992 w/ Mikkey Dee (drums) joining the band full-time.... Motorhead's records were selling so poorly in the US that their '93 album 'Bastards' was not released in N. America at the time.... Guitarist Wurzel quit in 1995, and Motorhead remained a trio for the rest of their career w/ Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee. Motorhead spent years recording and touring consistently, and they finally caught a break when their 2004 album 'Inferno' became an unexpected best-seller... Motorhead continued to push their brand of heavy rock w/ more albums until 2015, when Lemmy Kilmister passed away from brain cancer at the age of 70 just after Motorhead had completed a world tour. The band announced that Motorhead would not continue without the late Lemmy Kilmister (R.I.P) Since then, most of the classic members of Motorhead have passed away... including guitarists Wurzel, Eddie Clarke & Larry Wallis... and drummer Philthy... 😪 More Motorhead songs - 'Overkill' ... 'Bomber' ... 'The chase is better than the catch'... 'Deaf forever' ... 'Dancing on your grave' ... 'Orgasmatron'... 'Eat the rich' ... 'We are Motorhead'... 🔥🤘🤘

Saw them in the 80's and was had ringing in my ears for the next two days at school, amazing! Lemmy was originally bass player for British underground space rock band Hawkwind, he sung vocals on a couple of their tracks in the early/mid 70's, he eventually got fired as was mainly on speed all the time and it did not gel well with the acid the rest of Hawkwind were on most of the time. Lemmy then went to start Moterhead. Hawkwind are still going now, and have had a strong underground following for years on the festival scene in the U.K.

Motörhead were a Rock/Hard Rock band from England. They started out in the mid 70's and helped shape the sound of Har Rock and Metal to come. They are a huge influence on many Metal, Rock and Punk bands alike. Lemmy Kilmister the singer/ bassist passed away in 2015 and his funeral was attended by some of the biggest names in the music industry. The speed they played was basically never heard of before. So many bands today owe them a lot. "Fast" Eddie Clarke was their guitarist and he died in 2018. He also had a fairly successful band called Fastway which he founded after leaving Motörhead.

Lemmy of Motorhead once fronted the band "Hawkwind" and had a big hit with "Silver Machine" he was fired from Hawkwind and they learned later what a bad mistake that was when he formed Motorhead. R.I.P Lemmy.

Motörhead was the mix of rock, punk and metal. Lemmy always introduced themself with the words: "We are Motörhead and we play rock n roll"

I was eighteen when this came out and I was into second wave British punk and it was influential on everyone into heavy music They always denied labels and said they were playing rock 'n' roll.

I did lots of light and sound shows for Thrash bands in the 80's...Motorhead always had thrash openers! They were very popular in the NY, NJ and Philly Metal heads!

I love that song! I think you hit it on the head, there is just some kind of energy to it. I always thought of that song (and a lot of their catalog) as Raunchy. It is just straight forward raunchy Rock and Roll and I love it! 😝🤘✌

Im so glad you checked it out..This is the song I play loud when I'm frustrated from a bad day. It's my equivalent to yelling in a pillow. I feel 20lbs lighter afterwards.

In the military the Ace of Spades is known as the DEATH Spade. They used to leave the death spades on the bodies of the enemies as an intimidation factor in Vietnam.

Wow, you did Motorhead! 🤯 They weren't anywhere near a mainstream band...few people were really into them, but their cult following was/is diehard. It's amazing how many people claim to love the band now. I *think* this song came out in 1979 or 1980, based on the stereo I had at the time that blasted this shit on 11 😂. They have a TON of bangers. What sucks is that I FINALLY got Motorhead tickets and Lemmy died a couple of days before I got the chance to see them live. I still have my unused ticket stubs and sadness over it. 😢 Thanks for reacting. 🤘

Motorhead was the loudest band I've ever heard.. I couldn't hear good till the next afternoon.. I saw them one time in 1995 at the house of Blues here in New Orlean.. The floor went insane when the ace of spades started.. I had to get off the floor
