Nightwish has been around since '96 and Evanescence since '94. Linkin Park since '96. Amy Lee and Evanescence has been around longer than both aforementioned bands.

kind of. the dates when they formed is true, but NW's first studio album came out 6 years before Evanescence's. NW actually released 4 studio albums before Evanescence's first came out (Angles Fall First '97, Oceanborn '98, Wishmaster '00, and Century Child '02 vs Evanescense with Fallen '03). Yes, they had a couple of indy EP's, but NW was out and established with over 1 million albums sold worldwide before the first sale of Fallen. So yes, Evanescence technically was together first, but goofing around local bars in Little Rock doesn't really count... does it? ;)

This is one of the most iconic songs of my life. I didn't see the video for years after. I was at a time of great spiritual flux when i heard this. It resonated with the relationship I was fervently searching for with the Creator. I know this doesn't exactly line up with intent of the song, or most people's perception of it. However, it spoke to me in a way that I needed at the time. This is in my to tier of favorite songs ever.

That's a bit misleading though. Evanescence was a duo until the 2000's. They didn't play the same style of music in 94. Neither of them had any influence on the other and aren't even the same genre of music. Always makes me scratch my head when they're compared.

You want alternative and open your perspectives to female rocker, you should definitely listen to "Love Bites (So Do I)" from Halestorm and "Awakening" from Unleash the Archers. Those 2 singers, combined with Amy Lee and Floor Jansen, they are my personal pantheon :)

Bonnie Taylor Im holding out for a Hero is a banger track no matter who you are. I believe this song was something the record company wanted. At this time with nu metal exploding the record company wanted a "rap" in the song... evanescence almost didnt agree to this and was almost ready to walk away from their deal over this. I like the ending of this song because the video isn't about the guys side.... it is about a womans story. So yeah its refreshing to have a music video that isnt just a mans hero dream :)

I played this CD on repeat for 2 years. It came out at the time I started running so whenever I ran on the treadmill I listened to this whole album and I got superstitious and convinced myself that if I ever changed the CD I wouldn’t be able to run as fast or as far (perfect example of my OCD). I never got sick of this album and when I hear this song my body immediately wants to run!!! lol Amy’s voice is sooooo good.

Excellent choice! Evanescence is one of my fav bands. Amy Lee is like no other. Her voice is truly haunting, and she touches your soul. I love her voice so much. Check out the song Whisper. It's wasn't one of the most popular songs, but it's one of my favs.. an incredible song. My Immortal was written by bandmember Ben Moody, in honor of the passing of his grandfather, who had been a significant influence in his life. Amy did write a song to honor her sister who had died when the two of them were just little kids. That song called.Hello. As I understand, this song was actually written regarding the man who would eventually become her husband. At the time, however, she was in relationship with someone else. So that’s why this one where it ended the way that it ended. Her husband to be was, if you want to put it, this way starting to wake her up, but at that time she was still trying to make that old relationship work.

The "creepy clown faces" is actually my favorite visual piece of the video, the girl has a smiling clown mask, and then she lifts it and you can see she's crying. In those two split seconds, so much is said, about how people wear happy masks to hide the pain from others, to the point where it's so unnatural it's almost clownish. It's too bad it often goes unnoticed, it's such a powerful metaphor.

They gained momentum in their career when this song was featured in the Daredevil movie in 2003 and shot up from there. this song also won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2004. Also the name Evanescence comes from the Latin evanescere meaning "disappear, vanish."

The dude is Paul McCoy from 12 Stones, he's not part of the band Evanescence. I suppose because this was their first single, they didn't want to confuse people with the 'ft.' tittle. Linkin Park came out the year before and changed rock with their new sound from hybrid theory, and from what i understand, this song was curated by the label to mimic that sound by inserting the male vocal rapping. For other suggestions on Evanescence and Amy Lee, check out "Call me you're sober", "Going Under", and Seether ft. Amy Lee -"Broken" (Amy's estranged husband's band). IIRC, Call me when you're sober was about Seether's Shaun Morgan. Indecently, Seether has some bangers as well you'd enjoy reacting to.

This was the first release off of "Fallen" their first LP album. The phrase that you heard at the end was "Don't let me die here." Also the ending after she wakes up, when they look in on the band, is illustrating the idea that it is a relationship that is wished for, but has not happened. He is walking away from the window because he is not aware of her.

The group is based around her, the record label wouldn’t let her do the song unless they added a rapper to that song. She was conflicted by it. But the label pushed for her to add someone. That was around Linkin Park was out and it was the sound of that time.

The tv show was Cover Up - Jon-Erik Hexum died during filming in 1984 when he thought a blank pistol wouldn't hurt him. He suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was gorgeous and would have gone far. I still can't hear "I Need a Hero" without tearing up.
