The Source is the name of a science fiction concept album, Ayreons ninth studio album and the first in a series. This video can be seen as an introduction to the album. Ayreon is a progressive metal/rock opera project by the Dutch musician/artist/genius Arjen Lucassen. This album features different singers, all acting their own role. Arjen uses different singers for different albums but has some favorites, who return from time to time. One is Floor. Another is Tommy Karevik, the guy that you liked most. He is swedish, like myself (proud for that ☺️). He is vocalist in the band Kamelot, you can check them out if you want.

Yessss you did it! Now “everybody dies” live from Ayreon! What you say in the end: Arjan has a big rolodex with the best singers in it. He is the componist and director. Every voice has a specific role wich he carefully chooses. I dont know if the collaboration is a typical European thing but as a person who lives in the Netherlands; it is normal to collaborate. There is no competition between artists because everybody wants the same: beautiful music. You could watch the Dutch show: “Beste zangers” (best singers/ dear singers) were professional singers try to honor eachother to make a connection with their music and the music of 1 of the singers in that episode and make crossovers or be creative. Floor Jansen was a guest in this show and has many breathtaking unexpected songs for the guest (she sings pop, metal, operette, musical etc). Her “fantom of the opera” with the real Dutch fantom (Henk Poort) from the international Fantom of the opera (Andrew Lloyd Webbers favorite fantom) was a big hit. Whenever Nightwish performs in the Netherlands, Henk Poort is a special guest who sings this with her.

16K visitors in the Netherlands for 5 Ayreon concerts two weeks ago....... more than 60 nationalities traveled to Tilburg (city nearby where Arjen Lucassen - Ayreon, lives). The city was flood with black Ayreon shirts and all sorts of languages. I was there and I still can't believe it!

On Friday I saw Damian Wilson with a 45 minutes small gig, then ran to the city camping as Marcela Bovio did a 60 minutes concert (I cried..), then back to a cinema to see the Ayreon Electric Castle concert from 2019 on big screen. And sunday evening I visited the primary gig: Beneath the waves concert by Ayreon. Besides my wedding day and birth of my two daughters the best day of my life!!

Imagine, a small town in the countryside of rural The Netherlands. In an attick there is a hippy hermit that happens to be one of the greatest composers on this planet. It's a real pleasant cool dude that writes his scifi-music stories. A lot of them. When it is on paper he starts recording because he is a really goooood multi instrumentalist. But he needs voices that sing the characters from his story. So he contacts a lot of friends worldwide who happen to be the greatest singers on the planet. And then the wonder takes place. They are honoured to be asked and participate with his projects with enthousiasm. They all kill it because they are so motivated bij this magical hermit and fine human being. I recently saw a show where they did this live. Can you imagine? 25 main worldwide singers on a three story high podium with the best musicians you can find. All extremely enjoying themselves and having a party. Of course with lasers, smoke, pyro's, the works. Can you imagine what that does with the audience from 50 nationalities? ( they come from all over the world to experience this). I leave the conclusion to you.......epic epic epic.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have just seen Ayreon live this month in the Netherlands since they only do live shows for one weekend every couple years due to how difficult it is to get everyone together. Probably the best metal/rock show I've ever been to just in terms of how much fun the experience was and how good it sounded live. The last two live productions they've done have each focused on specific albums, so it's possible that the show they did this month will never be played live again (fully) unless they finish the other albums and loop back around.

Yeah ... I'm sure everyone has already told you; but you have to see this live. Ayreon's music is such a wonderful rabbit hole to fall down. I'd suggest a couple of tracks to try: 'Into the Black Hole' live from Ayren Universe ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnrZn6upl51mhNE ) and 'Intergalactic Space Cusaders, again a live track from Ayreon Universe ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4CZhZypeK16nqM ). First time watching you man, loved your reaction. As a long, LONG time Ayreon fan that's been listening to Arjen's music (the tall dude that writes the whole thing) for nearly 20 years, ill try to explain as best I can. "Ayreon" is the name of a prophet in Ayreon's first self-titled album. It's established in it that he's been contacted by entities from the future to warn Humanity of its future mistakes. The story about those entities is recounted in the following concept album. I don't want to write a long-@ss essay, but pretty much every Ayreon album, which are all concept albums by themselves, are all linked together, save for a few, but even then an argument could be made its still all part of the same universe. Sort of like the MCU. Arjen has created a whole universe through his projects Ayreon and Star One. He's invited countless superstars to sing on his albums, including Bruce Dickinson, Floor and Irene Jansen, Devin Townsend, to name but a VERY VERY few. Ayreon is a VERY deep rabbit hole, it's extremely compelling and tells a Roch story full of interesting characters and intertwined stories across many albums spanning decades, it's a historic artistic endeavor woven by a passionate genius.

They pulled off this song live at the concert two weeks ago - absolutely mindblowing. My very first Ayreon live experience, and it was a blast. As others have mentioned, every album tells a story, and the storyline stretches across almost all of those. For better understanding you need to listen to them in the right order. Arjen Lucassen thought his music was too complicated to be played live, but he was proven wrong (The Theater Equation was the first show ever). Then he did Ayreon Universe live (a few songs from every album) and Into the Electric Castle and other Tales, where a whole album was played (with some extras, thus "other tales"). The 01011001 (also a complete album) was two weeks ago and we all hope for another one to come in 2025. Preparation time for a show is about 2 years.

The Ayreon show a fortnight ago was magical. And this song was the icing on the cake, the finale song of the whole, which shiw took 2,45 hrs ti perform btw. Figures since the whole album Ayreon 01011001 (planet Y) was performed in its entirety! Btw planet Y is the planet the Alphans flee to when abandoning their doomed planet Alpha… It was a mindblowing concert. Can’t wait for the next Ayreon show!

Think of Arjen Anthony Lucassen's albums as a movie. Each song is an individual scene in the movie. Each character is "played" by a different guest vocalist. The album/movie this song comes from has 11 characters/vocalist.

This ( and most of the Ayreon repertoire ) is a modern take on the " Prog Rock " Concept albums of the 1970s - the days when the album was king and kids had a longer attention span than a goldfish 😂😉 The fact that Arjen can call on so many of these performers - most of whom are Rock & Metal nobility - is an indication off the esteem in which he is held . BTW several of the vocalists featured are from the U.S. There is an extensive back catalogue of his work ( mostly studio albums ) but every few years most of these performers come together in Holland and do some EPIC live performances - the time gaps between these and the fact there have been so few is due to the logistics of getting usually 30+ artists who are at the top of their careers to find a time slot which suits them all and travel from all over the world to the Netherlands to perform . I'd suggest you perhaps check out some of these live performances - they are truly awesome ( as is their creator Arjen Lucassen - a true musical genius )

Aryeon is Arjen Lucassen. He's very creative and unique. His albums are stories. With a lot of different musicians. They performed it live. Not with every musician who's on the album because, each one of them are in their own band and the schedules don't always match. It is live magical and unbelievable good. This month Aryeon (Arjen Lucassen) did another amazing story live concert again from his latest album. Everything live is truly amazing and even the back-up vocals are famous. Another very good story musician is Avantasia. Arjen mentioned him in this music video. In the USA you have a band called Ice Earth. I like all three. All three are different with their own sound, inspiration, stories etc. All three are amazingly good live. Happy you enjoyed yourself. By the way Arjen Lucassen is a real down to earth person with his own mind and also very approachable. You’re about to fall into a deep rabbit hole and you’ll never want to climb out of it again. Look at both epic live concerts after this: Ayreon Universe live The electric castle live and other tales. And don’t forget the albums. A third live concert was performed a few weeks ago. New official material of that concert will appear on the channel of Arjen Lucassen. The way I like to explain it to those who are unaware about what Ayreon is, think Star Wars. Ayreon is like the Star Wars universe and Arjen is the George Lucas of the Ayreon universe. Arjen has different projects/universes that he writes musical stories for and so his Ayreon albums are all stories that connect to the Ayreon universe. The albums are like episodic Star Wars stories, the songs being the episodes of the greater story in the Ayreon universe, this kind of album structure is called a concept album. Usually bands do a concept album and that album ties in the whole story and then another concept album they do is not connected to previous concept albums but with Arjen, he has his universes which are a project and the name of the project is the name of the “band” so you know which universe the album is part of, it’s an interesting way of doing it, it wasn’t something I had come across until I discovered Ayreon and had to do some research to understand it. So what happens is, Arjen is the creator (the George Lucas) he writes the songs etc and then he gets musicians and singers to perform the music and the singers play their individual character in the story like an actor and in the different albums, some of those characters are reoccurring, so you have the individual albums that are a story and all the albums in say the Ayreon catalog are all part of a bigger story. Arjen was also the one who discovered Floor Jansen back in the day and he just seems like a very cool guy. He is like the Ren of the symphonic metal scene and he has been at it longer than I have been around and I am in my 40’s, the two remind me of each other, their creativity, their musicality, their writing, their production, their generosity, their good nature, how they help others and give others their flowers and how they appreciate the fans and how humble they are etc

I won't spoil anything, but one tidbit. There are three backing singers and one of them is Floor's sister Irene. She has an excellent voice as well, but she is not a full time musician. Floor has been working with Arjen Lucassen (the mastermind behind all of this) for over 20 years. Arjen puts together these super groups for his sci-fi based prog rock projects.

So this is the first song of a concept album called The Source. Its meant to introduce everything, mainly the setting and the characters. Arjen cleverly combined the two by introducing the characters by their role in the story, thereby explaining the setting through what the characters argue for according to their role. Shout out to Andy indeed. Ayreon is great and only makes concept album. If you're into that stuff, you need to dive in head first.

Ayreon (Eh-ree-uhn) is a "project", by Arjen. Works with some of the best artists in the business. It's progressive rock. This song is the title track from a sci-fi concept album. You're not far off by saying a soundtrack. I'm fairly certain I suggested this one on the Bard Song, because at that point you were familiar with at least Floor and Hansi.

You won't hear this on the radio in Europe. I guess you have to be really into one (or more) of the artists he works with, to know about Ayreon. I've seen some interviews with him and he's such a nice guy. He has stage fright, so what he's doing is smart. He writes the music and lyrics, and gets other people to be in the spotlight.

Arjen is very much a Guy you could arrange an interview with, He'll unblock any claim made against a reaction, He is a top guy with a VERY large musical brain. Ayreon is very much a "Super Group" although i think "Collective" is a better description. Arjen comes up with a concept for an album, then seeks to explain that concept with a musical story......there are very tracks that can be called "Singles" as they all follow and flow one into another, telling an epic tale. My personal favourite of Ayreon is "The universal Migrator Pt 1&2" but there is nothing weak in anything with the Ayreon badge
