@@KozueMegami well, yeah! As long as he is paying Sting to use it then it’s okay. Artists do that all the time. Heck, The Verve hardly makes a penny off their biggest song due to using the better part of a Rolling Stones song with their permission.
@iancollins6510 ай бұрын
@@mattsmith5609 if you get permission from the artist, or if you keep the sample short enough, it would not be considered stealing. There are many artists that are very talented with the use of samples. The Police are an amazing band. I grew up listening to them. Every single they released was fire. Sting has a fantastically mellifluous voice, but Stuart Copeland’s drumming is truly genius he writes and composes brilliant music for movies too. Andy Summers is a very original guitar player who has a great deal of emotion in his way of playing, whilst keeping the punkiness in his style. Most people know tracks from the Outlandos D’Amour and Reggatta De Blanc albums, but my favourite album is Ghost In The Machine specifically the track Spirits In The Material World. My favourite single is Roxanne and this track Message In A Bottle.

Interesting fact about them; Sting was the band’s song writer. Sting is so talented that he would create these songs by himself, play the bass, guitar and drums as well as sing the songs, record them, then hold on to them until the band was ready to drop another album. Stew said he would hear Sting’s recordings and be like, “he didn’t even need us. By the time Andy and I heard the song it was already good enough to release”. Of course Sting didn’t do that and re-recorded his songs with the band until he was ready to leave them and become a solo artist… and history has shown just how successful he became on his own. The guy is like a musical freak of nature. SOOO talented
@RightReverendMatt10 сағат бұрын
Andy Summer, one of the New Wave’s most underrated yet influential guitarists, taught Sting how to harmonize and configure the musical space. Andy is a jazz player and 10 years older than Stewart or Sting. Sting is obviously the main composer and a genius at that, not to mention extraordinary lyricist, vocalist, and bass player. But a fully formed pre-Police Sting is urban legend. Andy Summer guided and arranged Sting’s genius into the brilliant catalogue that is The Police. Stewart Copeland, like Ringo Starr, played most of those songs in one or two takes. There is no way Sting ever played drums remotely as creatively or originally as Copeland. Copeland is considered to be one of the five greatest rock drummers of all time. Though Sting went on to have several hits after pursuing his own thing, barely any of his solo work even remotely compares to his work with The Police. Not the energy, the spark, the originality, nor the effect. That’s because The Police are one of the greatest rock bands in history. Great as he is, Paul McCartney made the same mistake. It’s never the individual. It’s the band. The group. What that group of exceptional musicians who were The Police created in the late seventies and early eighties, and the reach and influence they achieved, will never be repeated. Even when they can hardly be in the same room together anymore, when a group of musicians commit to their music and ignite the spark, it’s magical and the result of their work is always greater than the sum of the bands parts.

Amazing 3 piece band. Stewart Copeland is the drummer and he is one of the best ever. He's does a lot of composing now. Sting playing bass and singing...that ain't easy. And Andy Summers, great guitarist. All so accomplished. You really should listen to more of their stuff - they were highly influenced by Reggae and you can hear it in a lot of their early songs. Their biggest hit is Every Breath You Take but I would definitely not start there. Don't Stand So Close to Me, Walking on the Moon, Roxanne are just the 1st three I'd suggest for you. Then moving onto to some of their "later" stuff like Synchronicity. IT's a great band to discover and I'm a little jealous that you get to hear all for the first time :) Have fun!

BP, you are such a good dude. You bring happiness to a morning. Great reaction, as always. Without looking it up, I believe Roxanne was their first big hit. It was certainly helped along by Eddie Murphy singing it in the movie 48 Hours. My #1 favorite of theirs is Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic. Don't Stand So Close To Me and Can't Stand Losing You are right there too.

I'm sure you're familiar with "I'll be missing you" by Puff, Faith Evans, 112; that song samples "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. I've listened to The Police for years but till now didn't realize how much you can hear the inspiration in Ren's style. Keep up the great content BP.

HUGE catalogue Roxanne one of the first big hits Don't Stand So Close to Me Every Little Thing She Does is Magic Synchronicity 1 and 2 Every Breath You Take Wrapped Around Your Finger (this last one is where you can really tell Sting used to be an English teacher... who else would reference the Scylla and Charybdis in a rock and roll song?)

Love The Police! They have so many hits. Every Breath You Take is probably their most famous song.

I was lucky enough to see The Police 3 times here in Australia. The first two times at a average sized venue. The third and last time was an outdoor arena style venue on their farewell tour in 1983. It was an all day event with 6 other support acts. I love you too react to Roxanne which I would say was their breakout song. Possibly their biggest hit that you may even recognise is Don't Stand So Close To Me. But that's one of many hits the Police had in their fairly short existence as a band.

Their drummer, Stewart Copeland, is the most entertaining person in this video. Just looks like he's having a great time.

I actually love to follow your journey to discover the music that shaped the world of today. Makes me feel old though cause all music you have been listening to is from my youth 😂😂

There was a The Police album (possibly a greatest hits album) in the collection of CDs my dad would pack in the car whenever we went on summer holiday to the south of france. So this song just transports me back to the summers of my youth and its incredibly comforting and nostalgic. Even as an adult now, I love The Police.
