"The sister was hung on the gallows high The miller was burned at the stake nearby" That had no right to rhyme so damned well. I love it!

Wonderful! I love the Pentangle version of this song; this is my first time hearing Seeger's. Absolutely beautiful.

Lovely American version of Child ballad Twa Sisters. I haven’t heard an American version before. Must be Appalachian as they made versions of Child ballads frequently.

It's pretty standard in Appalachian folk music, although more often in that context I see it as "The Wind and Rain"

Where did this audio come from? This is one of my favorites

Morgan. Her versions of the old ballads that tell a story like this one are my favorites. This song is on the 1958 Kapp album "Folk-Song Saturday Night" which includes songs by Seeger, Alan Lomax, Guy Carawan, and John Cole. The audio is from that vinyl album. She sings six songs - one is "The Two Sisters." I'm thinking of making a Seeger compilation video that includes these songs and others from similar albums that include songs by her and other singers. I did a full album video of her 1962 album "A Song For You And Me" and should soon post full album videos of her two early 1960s albums "The Three Sisters" and "The Best of Peggy Seeger." Take care.

I've been trying to learn the Banjo. Does anyone have any idea what roll she's doing? It sounds like she strums for the chorus, but I can't tell.

I'm partial to the Tom Waits version but this is good as well.
@edible0pig4 жыл бұрын
Both this version and the Waits version leave out the part where the sister's body floats ashore, her flesh rots away and her bones are turned into a fiddle that sings of her fate, leading to the cruel sister's suicide / arrest and subsequent execution.
@bwrpwr4 жыл бұрын
@@edible0pig Well the Waits one makes it sound like the miller got the blame and doesn't mention a suicide at all. I think I prefer the song without the supernatural element you mentioned.
