What a brilliant guest you have Jonathon. What he describes about disinformation explains so much for me. I’ve never understood why people in democratic countries prefer to believe lies rather than use plain common sense. They always complain about what the big, bad THEY are doing without realizing the people telling these lies are actually the big, bad they.

This site is a treasure trove! It informs my course on propaganda to no end with its incredible guests and Mr. Fink's fantastically informed yet never leading questions. Mosab Yousef, a.k.a. The Green Prince, son of a Hamas co-founder, has spoken about the link between Putin and Hamas, i.e. during his recent UN talk and at U Michigan. Would love to see a Silicon Curtain in-depth look at the firehose of falsehoods around that.

If it is true that people are generally unable to focus their attention on more than one issue at once, wouldn't it make sense to communicate that issue in a way that makes it clear that it is part of a larger complex? Simply put, people should understand that the war in the Middle East, is not an isolated event, but like the war in Ukraine, just another part of the greater struggle that Russia is waging against the Western democracies and that it is actually the Kremlin that is behind ALL the evil and the crises that the world currently has to deal with.

Thank you for interviewing someone from Finland! As a Czech, I sometimes feel bit sad that Central Europe and the eastern NATO flank don´t get much space in Western media. And yet, we´re still doing lots to help Ukraine, as Pekka has shown. Collecting money and donating drones and vehicles, delivering humanitarian aid, fighting propaganda, pushing for help to Ukraine on the international scene. Slovakia (understandably) only gets a mention whenever the prime minister does something horrible, but there are lots of Slovaks helping Ukraine.
@DarkestAlice11 ай бұрын
Thank you, Czech Republic, for all the support! I really appreciate it and agree that we hear far too few reports and mentions of eastern European countries. If the rest of Europe would have listened more in the past, the western European countries would not have been so "surprised". For example, what Belarus and RuZZia have been / are doing along the borders between Poland and Finland, has not been / is not reported in main stream media. So please accept my apologies for not having "self educated" before. Now I do use very different sources of information than before. All the best 🇺🇦 Заради життя кожного українця! 🇺🇦

DW was already talking about war fatigue since July 2022. They hammered on it so often that I stopped watching any of their programs except for their fantastic Documentaries such as Mariupol in the first Month of the Russian invasion and Death Road about the Russian attacks on the Zhytomyr Highway near Kyiv.
@carolwilliams851111 ай бұрын

See the DW documentary "Putin's advances in the Arctic" which was released a couple of days ago. Though it is presented as a threat to NATO, it actually is evidence that Russia has no desire to attack Western nations - unless of course it feels threatened by events - such as the buildup of forces around it..
@danielmiller378111 ай бұрын
I just turned away from mainstream channels for their overly pessimistic approach to Ukraine conflict, not to mention the huge amount of troll activity in the comments section.

Finland is a new NATO member, and I trust they are well-informed and ready for the situation con their border. It’s a great chance to welcome them and demonstrate our shared responsibility in securing their border. How about seizing the opportunity to address crucial and underestimated needs: a chance to challenge Russia and overshadow their efforts? Let’s steal the show and broadcast to the world our strength and their regrettable failure, establishing a clear deterrent for interfering with NATO territory for generations to come.

Finlandization was the choice of Finnish political leadership during Cold War to appease Soviet Union. They just decided it was easier to get along. It ended in 90s and Putin seeks getting back to historical times as a deluded neostalinist irredentist.

Pekka hit on a real issue that highlights the difference between Finland and most other countries wrt education, i believe Finland's education is not overseen by any of the political paties of the government so there's a lot less political interference. I would be interested to know how many "flat earthers" there are there/how prone their populace is to that level of idiocy?

Which by the way is what we should all say, because you guys have nothing in common with us, you barely trade with us, you willingly subjugated yourselves to an unaccountable EU bureaucracy, you demonize our oil and gas while buying Russian, then come crying to us for hundreds of billions of dollars worth of military subsidies every time Russia scares you by behaving exactly as Russia always has. I can only laugh (yes, bitterly) at the idea that we can afford to suffer "war fatigue." Or, rather, sure. It is a thing. But where we have competent leadership, it's a re-grouping, and a consensus understanding that this is only the beginning of the next great war. Too dramatic? Maybe. Feels right. Seems to be increasingly supported by developments. Eh.
