I'm pretty sure they record all their albums live, with minimal overdubbing - Which would explain the closeness in sound. Mono do the same thing :) Great band!

I personally use the B-F#-B-E-G#-C# and it works like a charm. But the tunings are very similar. The one I use is more suited to the fast root/5th hammer-ons.

Katatonia, Opeth and Octavia Sperati sound absolutely nothing like Pelican. Empires, Russian Circles, and Snowblood are pretty similar bands to Pelican. Not to mention the more popular bands such as Isis, Neurosis, Cult Of Luna and even Mastodon at times. Though I prefer Pelican to all of those.
