Thanks, it’s a shame that I’ve used it so little. I didn’t like the deck - trying to mount the trolling motor once in the water was challenging. Rough landings which don’t ally the trailer to be backed in make an on the water mounting necessary. I’m going to cut the deck into 2 sides which will leave front of the boat open and go back to original seats. I’ve found that with ice chest and tackle this is not a 2 person boat. I just bought a 19’ Avid bass boat and have to get my 16’ Scout CC ready to sell. I’ll post the changes when I get to them but it’ll be summertime before I will get back to it. Nice small water boat but only for 1 adult and maybe a small child

I agree about the deck. It’s on my list to cut down to 2 small shelves on each side. Sitting on one spot is far less tiring than up and down. Is that seat available on Amazon? I haven’t heard of it.

Nice mods....A question on nav lights. How did you wire the white/ down anchor light?
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 2 жыл бұрын
The rear white navigational light has two wires to which I soldered an extension that was run under the floor up to the switch panel under the front deck. Pretty easy wiring for DC voltage if you have basic DC wiring knowledge. Run the positive leg to the switch and the negative to a common ground bus bar. That other side of the switch runs to the positive coming from the battery.

I have a Bass Pro Shop bass buggy that I want to modify similar to what you have. I want to add navigation lights, fish finder and cigarette lighter outlet like you have. I would love to know how you did this, because I want to do a setup for my pontoon boat electrically like this. I would love some insight if you wouldn't mind. I"m not a electrical type of guy, but a quick learner. I just love the power box and switches to distribute the power to everything.This is how i envision my boat being powered. I'm in awe.

There’s great information available on YT on 12 volt DC. While I had a fairly good understanding of 12 volt DC before this project I spent time learning more watching videos on YT. Check out Engineering Mindset, Jeremy Fielding and Tiny Boat Nation. Search YT for “12 volt DC Basics” there are several videos on this topic. 12 volt DC is actually pretty simple once you understand the basics and easy to test. Get yourself a digital multimeter (search YT on that subject also - good ones available under $50). I would not recommend building the large battery box from parts. Layout design is critical to fitting everything in and really not worth the effort. Buy the Minn Kota Power Center or the similar one.
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 3 жыл бұрын
Start with identifying what you want (need) to power. Try not to go overboard here, it’s easy to do that and it complicates the design/build. Learn about amperage draw, wire sizes, switches and in-line fuses. Never connect a power lead directly to the battery always have an appropriately sized in-line fuse, breaker or fuse link to protect your equipment.

@@Grumpyneanderthal I want to build an portable power box identical to what you made to power a trolling motor, fish finder and navigation lights for the bow and stern. And of course with usb port and 12v outlet. Thanks in advance.
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 3 жыл бұрын
I have 2 power centers. The larger one (type 27 battery) powers the trolling motor primarily but has connectors for navigation lights, USB and cigarette lighter power. I use a second smaller battery to power the GPS/Fish finder and USB for cell phone charging.

So....you have 3/4 inch plywood balanced on that opening with no brace boards or nothing to keep it from shifting?
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 2 жыл бұрын
Not hardly Dan….Seriously that’s what you think?? I cut and glued two 3/4” x 1.5” strips of plywood together and then glued and screwed those strips under the platform running along each side inner walls with a tight fit which secured the platform and makes it solid. While traveling on the trailer the seat stand screwed to the top of the platform is strapped down to the trailer.

@@Grumpyneanderthal Do you think the rub rail would need to be taken off and sealed? Just pondering
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t removed it but saw a video of someone doing that (don’t remember who) it’s a clamshell and would take a lot of caulking to seal unless you could find a gasket material that would seal it. If the boat is exposed to the weather then maybe but mine will be both under cover and under a tarp covering so no need. I think that would be a two man job to seal it if you took the top cap off.

I'm on the verge of buying the 10E. I find many good ideas. I would be concerned about the Scottie mount for the transducer. I can see myself hookin a tree or dock & something has gotta give.
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a real possibility. Alternatively you can run the line down the trolling motor shaft and strap the transducer to the motor. That also has potential issues. I think the use of a FF is overdone. Many develop a high dependency on it as though fish weren’t caught before FF. It could spend a lot more time inside the boat and flipped outside when required.

I've been using the Scotty mount for my transducer, which is a much bigger one as I have a Lowrance Carbon unit and I never have any issues with it. The key thing is when you get in shallow water, you just need to bring it up until you're back in deeper water.

@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 4 жыл бұрын
After completing it I wouldn’t recommend it unless you just want the project experience. Considerable planning required because is so little space for components. I certainly didn’t save any money doing it myself not even considering my time. Buy the Minn Kota or Newport power center would be my advice. I drew a wiring diagram before started but had to make several modifications so it’s no really valid. Not really feasible to video it as I’m done now.
@joep412

@@Grumpyneanderthal thanks. I meant to say the battery box for the depth finder battery. The first box you showed. I have the Newport for my trolling motor battery. I like the idea of having the USB and cigarette lighter plug on both ends of the boat.
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 4 жыл бұрын
@@joep412 I’ll add the components to the description for that video. It might take a bit for me to redraw the wiring diagram. Several projects underway which is pretty much a constant state with me. Do you have a basic comprehension of 12 volt wiring? If so then the wiring diagram should be sufficient. The challenge is component placement. Not as bad as the larger case but still needs planning.

How did you secure the casting desk down?
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 3 жыл бұрын
I used long screws to anchor the 4 corners down into the outside ridges of the boat. Those can easily be plugged when I remove the deck. I’m going to take the deck off in a couple of weeks and replace it with 2 narrower shelves on each side to mount the lights and electronics and return to the original seat setup. I can’t easily mount the trolling motor while shoved off from the bank. Not enough room in front of the seat.

Working on My Raider Now , Im In South Mississippi ,so indeed our fishing is alot the same , I'm no gonna do a deck, I bass fish a little but it's not a primary thing, Catfishing , Crappie ,Bream, I git some small bayous on the coast in the Marsh I Can fish the reds specks and flounder in so that's gonna be a plus as well , I do like the idea of a compartment in the front and one in the back Small so it's not taking up space but can use as maybe a battery box and Possiable dry storage , I am Also Planning some type of PVC Railings At least up the sides that I can Take On and off depending on what I'm doing ,I wanna mount my spot Lights on the front of that rack for Running at night build rodholders on each side of that for night Fishin Catfish , nothing to High as to obstruct netting a fish just someting down both sides of the boat say 18" I have some thoughts on this , pvc pipe is cheap so it's worth a shot if it Works it should be a good one add ,and as I say if you changed your species and didn't need the rod holders and the other stuff just simply remove it and sit the one you need on, also I'm thinking im gonna use a simple inexpensive ice chest for the center I may build one and see how it suits me , I'll use simple airiator mr. bubble system for it it could double as live well or bait holder whatever the trip requires the lid being a good little table top for cutting Bait on or whatever , but I already built a couple Bait buckets from Five gallon buckets a while back that work Awesome so likely one will be a live well and one a bait bucket ,I think I can build a plywood middle and cut the holes so the buckets set Down in those so they're steady and accessible for front and back of I'm not Fishing live baits I can sit it aside and leave it at home , Like I said I do fish Catfish alot I have a medium size river and a bigger creek and lotsa oxbows, the river and Creek Both get low low during summer months And Fall Months the Eddys and deeper holes are alotta fun Fishing Catfish, From All I have seen and Watched this Raider will work Great in all Situations For Me ,I do wanna put on a Small 4 stroke gasoline , and you've got exactlly what I have in mind on yours , 4 hp Yamaha , I've looked at these boats a long time ,and some other stuff as well Did much Research before I bought it , I've had Aluminum boats and The last was a fiberglass that I probably should have kept but that's another story in itself , I built a wooden small that worked well but it was heavy to manage by yourself so I let a friend buy it off me several years ago, anyway , you hit the nail on the head many Times in this video ,Lotsa luck with your Raider you've got a great Start on it for Sure , Simple And Functional , ,I'll keep a eye out for some fishing vids , I may do a youtube channel if I can get my sons interested in helping out with content to Post , we'll see what happens with that At some point maybe , thanks for the info, tight Lines To Ya 🦈🎣

Yes our fishing environments are pretty similar and we both target multiple species, but my focus with this boat will be panfish. I've already taken the deck off and am thinking about building two narrow sections which house those same rod holder PVC tubes and my switch panel, mount for navigation lights and Fish Finder, but leave the center of the boat open. If you fish alone it will be great but with two people I think you're going to be limited on what you can carry. My work has finally picked up so finding time to get back on it is challenging, but hopefully I can complete the changes and get on the water in February for the Sacalait bite...Bend a pole.................

@@Grumpyneanderthal I've had another Thought,,, How would it work if a Piece Of PVC Pipe day a 6" or 8" was cut say 8ft long or however you want it in length, Cap the ends cut a Opening then say 5" Inches wide and Almost the lengths of the Capped cylinder then half a piece and make a hinged lid to Put on that it would Close Completely over that opening, a 8 inch PVC 8 ft Long would hold any rod and Depending On The reels ProbLY 4 at Least ,you could mount them length ways on each side of the boat even staying to the outside edge with a bracket and still.keeping the original side slots for the basics , if need be a simple little heating up would allow for a better fit for the compartment Lid door , I saw something like this on a you tubers Channel he had the Tube on the side of his Truck it had a hinged Capped End on the PVC pipe he just slid I Know 4 rods and reels into it but if you Capped the ends and cut the door or lid length ways leaving a few inches on each end for that to sit on ,it would be something similar to a PVC Rod storage Pipe , ,,this has potential I think,
@Grumpyneanderthal
@Grumpyneanderthal 3 жыл бұрын
@@donniedickerson8077 first go to Big Box and pickup 2 8ft lengths of PVC + end caps + brackets to see how heavy. Gotta be careful about how much weight you add. 600 lbs total less battery, gas motor, trolling motor, ice chest, tackle bags, 350 to 400 lbs of humans. I would be surprised that you could fit 4 rod n reels in 8” pipe. Maybe low rider baitcasters but I don’t think 4 spinning reels would go in. It could work but I’m thinking for panfish I only need 3 rods.

@@Grumpyneanderthal Indeed The Materials would surely have to be of minimal thickness and weight,I usually carry on about 2 Rods myself that's about it, rarely do I have 3 ,if I do I'm usually Catfishing , I'll be fishing two for Catfish and Usually one ultralight for a bait fish of.some Variety , Usually Red Bellies or something., Hmmm 🤔 Let The pondering Continue lol 🤣,

It’s was still pretty stable but the issue I ran into was that I have to mount the trolling motor after the boat is in the water and there’s really not enough room between the front seat and the front end to work comfortably while putting on the motor. I’ve taken the deck off and I’m planning to build 2 narrow decks one on each side to mount the GPS/FF, switch rocker panel and nav lights.
