well done i have this kayak and i was looking to spend with new motor and all around like $300 to do another project i was looking at. you sir, are a legend, this is definitely the best way to do it, leaving everything fully intact as well, enabling disassembly in case you ever wanted to take it off, this is perfect, i work in a sheet metal shop for the air force and i have access to every tool imaginable, and i can easily make this, i just needed a better idea, thank you for uploading this, and thank you for taking the time to figure this out. what a legend. well done

Well I had to give a thumbs up to your comment, LOL. But seriously I'm so happy to hear how people are turning their kayaks into motorized kayaks it's great. Had my note for the first time this year yesterday, I'm up in Canada so the ice is just off the water. But with a Lithium-Ion battery,. man is this thing sweet. I'd say good luck for doing yours but I'm sure you don't need that.

Great Idea for the Transom design. I have a Pamlico Wilderness, that used to come with an OPTION to get a Motor with a VERY simiar FOOT steer and speed control and cost about $1600 with the motor, back in the 90s. I have a Pamilico know and am going to use your Transom design and reset this one up. Great Fishing machine to be able to get wherever you need....even in Strong Currents.
@TonyBrunelle12 жыл бұрын
this is a lot less than $1600, and you can do 4 mph on the lake, so , not too shabby

Love the simplicity of it all. I just bought the Catch 120 last fall, then almost immediately injured my hand, so I've only had it on the water a couple of times. Looking forward to trying some fishing from it this year! I think a trolling motor would be a great upgrade.

Where did you get the split ring hangers used for the steering attachments on the motor shaft? Can't find them anywhere...
@ourfamilyfishing42928 ай бұрын
Got them at home Depot. But now I have trouble finding them as well. My buddy just simply took a about a 8-in long stainless steel screw. Put it right through the shaft, bolted it on and then put rings on the end. It does the same thing so you know being innovative.

Do you have a video of how you constructed your control box?
@jacolville5127 Жыл бұрын
Sorry I don't have a video on that. Get a closed plastic electrical box from home Depot, the control unit on a trolling motor is just a small little motor ,you'll see you can drill a hole for the control knob drill another hole to get the wires to exit the box.. I used waterweld to hold the control unit up against the top of the control box and I plugged the hole where the wires come out again with waterweld. What's that waterweld Hardened it's going to take dynamite to get it off. Simply take pictures of all the wires on the control unit when you take your trolling motor control unit apart. That way you can simply reconstruct it and seal it inside the electrical control box. One thing I did was take a 60 lb magnet and I screwed it glued onto the bottom of the box and then I put a metal plate on the kayak so it's on,it doesn't fall. I hope that helps, it's actually very easy and on the electrical box if you screw they are a bout 5 oR 6 bucks buy another one and start again. Good luck

just 1 question, I dont think you mentioned, is this 1" Square tubing aluminum, or is it 1" solid stock aluminum,

Sub'd just for your ingenuity! I'm about to get my first kayak for my future rockhounding adventures. Definitely going to use a trolling motor. Have you ever considered hooking up a small solar panel to yours? I plan to use a 50 watt flexible panel that is currently on my van with the kayak motor & battery.
@SidZork012 жыл бұрын
I have used the lithium iron battery a few times now and I absolutely love it. How to charge I just plug it into the house so I can't really tell you about a solar panel
@johnneufeld3192 жыл бұрын
I already asked you a few questions about this setup and now I'm at the point where I'm going to set mine up like yours. I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR SETUP and I have the exact kayak. one last question what did you use for the wedges to go into the handle so perfectly? Just the same 1×1 tube cut to fit? I figured if I asked I could save me some time.
@TonyBrunelle12 жыл бұрын
yes, I took the same 1"x1" Al tube, about 3-4 long. Used a jig saw, cut it diagonally, from one corner to the other. End up with 2 wedges. Then just drilled small hole on the inside of each wedge and screwed it onto the main transom support. Put the transom into the handle, put it where I wanted it to be, with the locking screw at the front and from that put in the two wedges. Use a marker to get the exact spot, take it out and screw them in. Put electrical take to reduce the risk of sharp edges on the wedge once all done.
