I guess the creators of The Legend of Korra initially intended for Pema to be Ty Lee’s daughter, but eventually decided to make her her own character. Though, you can argue that Pema isn’t NOT Ty Lee’s daughter, as her parentage is still unknown, so I guess it can retroactively be made canon. But I think it would be more likely for Pema to be Ty Lee’s GRANDDAUGHTER. Doing the math, Aang and Katara were in their thirties when Tenzin was born (31 and 33), and Tenzin is 16 years older than Pema (55 and 39 by the end of LoK). In the concept art, Pema noticeably looks at least a decade older than she does in the show and closer to Tenzin’s age. By the time Pema was born, Ty Lee would’ve been about 49. I guess it’s TECHNICALLY possible for Ty Lee to still be viable at that age, but it’s more likely that she had a child in her twenties, and then her child had Pema when she was in her twenties if we’re going by that theory. I also like the theory that Ty Lee is descended from Airbenders. It fits her personality.

Plus 100 years have passed when Aang came out of the iceberg. An entire genocide happened. Maybe the "lucky" few were air Acolytes that went into hiding. And with no airbending Master tattoos it was easier for them to hide in plane sight. My theory is that all the people that awakened their air bending after Harmonic convergence could have had some air nomad genes in them.

ty lee is not the only one in the fire nation who looks like this. In the air nomad community everybody was a bender. They never had non bender children. So bending is not only genetic. It's also partially spiritual. By the time Tenzin became a father, he and Aang already rebuilt the air nation together, so I would say that's why Pema will never have a non bender as a child.

I dont think the timeline matches up enough. Katara had tenzin at 34, and pema is supposed to be a lot younger than tenzin (about 15 years older). This would put ty lee having pema at having kids in her late forties. This isnt impossible, but unlikely. BUT. if ty lee had kids as a young adult, she could be her grand daughter!

Those are absolutely not the same clothes. They're airbender threads, that just so happen to be a shade of like pinkish purple. The style is very similar to the clothes Aang wore at the start of the ATLA series. Just in a different color. Ty Lee's clothes have pointier shoulders, a cloth hanging between her legs, and a notable fire nation style. Yes, they're both pink(ish), but they're definitely not the same shade nor style. As fun as this theory is, that concept art just isn't proof. Also, the other people's clothes in that concept art are not clothes from other nations. If Pema and Meelo were wearing water tribe clothes, they'd be either bulky like a snowsuit (such is the case with all water tribe clothes inside their village), or would have fur bits (and their lighter outfits are typically layered and often have short sleeves), and would likely have wavy or triangular shape patterns). Also, that's not an earth kingdom outfit. Earth kingdom often has more intricate patterns and angular shapes and lines in their clothes. Those are all air nomad outfits in different colors, likely for a stylistic choice to not overuse the same colors.

Impossible. Ty Lee was 15 when the war ended. Pema is 35 at the start of the series which takes place 70 after the war ended. Which means she was born 45 years after the war ended. That would mean that Ty Lee would of had to of been in her 50's or early 60's when Pema was born. Women naturally conceiving children in their 50's is extremely rare with the oldest woman to naturally conceive a child was 55. Usually women hit menopause in their late 40's when they stop having children. Not every character has to be related to an ATLA character.

This is why I always theorized Ty Lee as Pema's Grandmother rather than direct mother. Else, they're not related at all. I mean, even Toph's and Zuko's grandsons (Bataar Jr and General Iroh II respectively), seem to be in their 30s. So Pema is in no way "too old" to be Ty Lee's granddaughter.
