The green/black pen is beautiful. The green really stands out against that black.. wow... It's beautiful. I can understand what you were trying to achieve and see your disappointment but it still turned out lovely. Thanks for sharing

@@PohlBarnProductions I'm sure you will Doug., And we'll all be astounded. But the first one was pretty good. I think if the acrylic it whatever is called were somehow thicker it wouldn't run together so easily.. but I'm sure you've already thought of that.

Ha! cool blank. I turn a lot of acrylic pen blanks and use a 3/4 spindle roughing gouge to rough them out and finish the turning with a skew. So it's whatever works.

I make many 40 ounce pours for my mills and I like to push in thin separators and make the pour with two or three colors. After the pour pull the separators and then swirl. The pouring mixes the colors too much and you can't control it. Sometimes I leave it set for a while for better color separation. It works better. Cheers, Lee

They turned out cool. I use the micro mesh pads on the resin blanks too. But I spend more time, (like a good 45 seconds or more) sanding or polishing when I get to the 3600 to 12000 grit pads. My last set of blanks did not have any fine scratches in them.

I like the marbling effect and colors that you achieved! I don't know anything other than what I've watched on KZbin about resin but I'm curious if you would have poured the green and then poured dots or thin lines of the black and then swirled with your stir stick if it would have helped get more of what you wanted?

Hi Doug, That looks great. You can still apply a CA finish to epoxy to get the finish you want. Perhaps if you have waited a bit longer to wards the end of the working time then the colours might not have bled into each other so much as the resin would have been "stiffer". I always paint my tubes no matter how dark I think the resins are. Cheers, Huw

I agree with Nena Elliot, very nice color combination. Would the lacquer spray have worked as a finish? I thought that’s what you used before. As I recall, the lacquer made the resin look like glass. And maybe the chrome/silver tubes would help add to the glass effect? Anyway, fun experiment.

I watch a lot of soap making videos with creating very intricate color swirls in the final bars. In regards to your attempts to swirl the colors of your resin in your form, you might want to check out the "drop swirl" technique from soap makers. It might accomplish the design in the resin you are attempting. My favorite soap making artist channel is "Royalty Soaps". Hop that helps.

8:20 A suggestion for how to buff the pens: If you have a Dremel, get a small buffing wheel and use that while the lathe is slowly turning the pens. If you don't have a Dremel, you should be able to get a Buffing Wheel for a Cordless Drill. This should also work for bowls, plates and/or anything else you turn on your lathe. Another possibility is hold a strip of soft buffing cloth up against the work while the lathe is running at very high speed (like sanding but with different cloth).

I think you might have achieved your goal better if you had poured both the black and green simultaneously from opposite sides. Regardless the pen did finish very nicely. Thank you for sharing.

@@PohlBarnProductions I'm looking around for resin that are really good , not overexpensive and selled or shipped to Sweden.
@PohlBarnProductions
@PohlBarnProductions 5 жыл бұрын
@@Kristina_Sundkvist_Sweden I really can't help you with that one, I have no idea who ships to Sweden and even if they do I can see that being very pricey, I know it cost me 45 usd to ship the resin4art from the UK to the States, and that stuff is probably the most expensive resin I've used, probably the best too but at that price I've gone to other resins.

@@PohlBarnProductions I checked the price in sweden for Alumilite Clear, it will be about $50 per liter.

@@Kristina_Sundkvist_Sweden depending on the Alumilite you chose it has to be pressurized, slow set or fast set clear does, Amazing clear I am unsure of,
