I have been on a pen fast for a little over a month, with one exception. A small pen company that both makes blanks and pens, created a new resin and didn't immediately have a name for their new resin. My daughter suggested a name, they liked it, and used her suggestion. So then they turned the first pen and I asked to buy it. I had to. I mean, the first pen from a new resin, that my daughter named? So the pen came and I literally gasped when I opened the box. But, I agree with you. The short time I've not been buying pens has taken a weight off my shoulders, and pocketbook.

I'm sorry you fell, but glad you didn't break anything. My wife fell early Aug. 2023, and she managed to have the worst break by breaking her ankle in two places!! It took 2-3 plates and plenty of screws to put back together, and a long time to recover. She's very much better a year later, but that ankle will never be 100% the way it was!! Love the pen talk, and Chris, just be yourself!!

I'm finally starting my pen fast I have quite litterly run out of money so I'm finally on the struggle buss and I am going to have to batten down the hatches and not buy any more inks paper or pens for quite some time I'm moving next year and I have to start widdling down my credit card so I can afford the move its gonna be a big change but hopefully things will be ok :)

Great video Chris, love these chats. Sorry to hear about your fall, hope you are recovering quickly. Sorry that us men are so stuborn too! I had my Covid-19 jab yesterday, decided not to have flu on the same day as that just sounds like immune system overload. Glad you are doing Diamine inkvent, I'm sure we'll find someone to follow that's doing the Colorverse one. Maybe it'd have been more affordable if they'd just used their little 5ml bottles. I'm having a lot of fun organising and swatching my samples by brand, of course I have more thank i thought I did! Take care, and thanks for being you.

Hi David -- you're wise about getting one of the vaccines at a time ... ! I was just being lazy not wanting to go back in a week for the other one. I conrinue to struggle with spending on stationery items I don't need, and while I have a fair bit of self-awareness at this point, I still don't always have the will to resist new goodies. I love the idea of using what I have and using these items as tools to be creative or to build connections with others. But the struggle is real. Wearingeul recently came out with an ink called A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf. That's one of my favorite books, and I want a bottle so badly just so I can put it on my shelf and admire it. It's not even an ink color I like. So far I'm holding out, but it's tempting. I also keep a notebook to journal all aspects of this hobby, and I include a wish list of items that I mostly never buy.

Oh Marilyn -- I can really sympathize about the temptation on the ink called "A Room of One's Own" ... there have been several book or movie related inks that super tempted me even when the colors were not really my favorites! It's powerful marketing!!!! :) I too love keeping a wish list because it makes me relax and not feel like I'm going to forget about things when my next opportunity to add to my collections does come along! :)

I am so glad you liked Violet Blackberry! I am sorry that I interrupted your pen buying fast, however I ended up buying a bottle too after listening to the beginning of the video. Thanks for the information on Tsutsuji being discontinued. I hadn’t heard yet. As soon as you said that it was discontinued, I went and bought a bottle before I finished watching your video. I love the gold sheen in that color so much. So we both ended up buying bottles of ink.

Hi Chris! I have to say you have SO inspired me to try the intermittent fasting and using your 4 hour eating window really fits my schedule! Yay! I do think it is a healthy way to lose weight and I’m amazed at the amount of energy I have! I have watched a lot of KZbin videos on the subject and am confident that it is healthy and restorative. Riding the hunger waves isn’t particularly easy but after 3 weeks is actually getting better. Thanks for being an inspiration on many levels. Keep going !! I hope your healing starts moving faster so you can get back to normal soon ❤

Hi Barbara - oh that's really cool! I have long felt that the free and safe process of intermittent fasting has been such a well kept secret ... then when I learned about Dr Jason Fung and his books and channel... it all started to make sense. I'm convinced from lots of research that it is very safe and helpful especially for women over 50 when our metabolism slows down. Thanks ... I am continuing to mend everyday and I'm being much slower and more mindful of my steps. :)

it's good to see you're going into a phase where you can just choose not to buy things for a while but also buy the few you truly want without going down a spending spiral. my stationery fast lasted since last xmas and ended this month due to hobonichi releasing their planners for 2025. there was no way to wait for mine because they sell out fast. my mom passed unexpectedly this summer and the depression has kept me away from the hobby, but i still have the faithful eco broad with emerald of chivor inked up. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the next pen chat (whatever name it ends up having) about how to get motivated to journal when all you have are difficult thoughts ❤

Hi @littlebadger - I'm so sorry for your loss of your Mom. Wow you did have a long stationery fast! I had my eye on a pretty Hobinichi Weeks with sort of a purple design and a cat in it ... of course that one sold real fast but it sure looked pretty!!!! I'm all set on my calendar for next year but I do admire their designs! I have a lot of journaling thoughts I want to incorporate into a video soon! I hope you're doing okay ... the depression from loss is the worst. Take good care of yourself!

This video made me think about how can we capsule our pens, inks and notebooks similarly to how I capsule my wardrobe. I def want to not buy this ink. I still have tons of ink bottles from inkvent calendar that has been untouched. Ah and the art of marketing. The pen industry has def up’d their game.

Hi Charmi -- I'm going to be giving this a lot of thought .... I have such an easier time of dealing with my clothing ... right down to organizing it and being much much smarter about acquiring only what I NEED and will wear. I even have gotten great at very regularly removing pieces I don't wear for whatever reason. These skills can transfer to my pen hobby for sure ... !!! :) I'm not very minimal in terms of numbers with my clothing because I have quite a lot so that I don't have to wash clothing out in my non-heated utility room in winter but yet I use everything. Lots to think about. LOL :)

That's so funny you'd mention this because after hearing several great ideas which would be excellent I realized that just sticking with the name: Pen Chat is the only tag that fits into the space on the thumbnail LOL. :) And it's simple and straight forward.

How about “Pen Intentions”? The thing I like about fountain pen and ink use is that it is intentional. Everything about it whether you buy or you don’t buy, what color you choose to which pen you use. What LAMY Ink. did you purchase? I don’t think you said that. I really like your podcast for the ink comparisons and your honest reviews of pens and ink. Thank you I hope you’re feeling better. I took a bad face plant August 8. Not good & I’m still feeling it. Nothing broken both knees painful, etc..

Have you considered that some of the pain you are experiencing is a result of unnaturally long and arguably unhealthy "fasting" periods, and that this depravation might have contributed to your fall? Anything can become an addiction. And a normal eating schedule is NOT a "recipe" for Type II diabetes; that is dangerous misinformation. Type II is generally a result of weight and poor diet choices. Also, fasting the way you are promoting it has been largely discredited by legitimate researchers. You can do whatever you want with your channel, but promoting potentially dangerous protocols to an audience of people who have come to trust and enjoy your pen content is questionable.

I have ideas! Don't know if they're any good, but I've been working 16hrs shifts for like 2 weeks straight. So: pens & life schmooze/parley/tête-à-tête/colloquy/chronicle/spiel... That's all I can think of right now. Wanted to ask about your journey with intermittent fasting and how you found the strength to do it, because I can eat now and within an hour my brain tells my body I am starving, and while I know the hunger isn't real, the pain I feel is.

Hi @sentient.ball.of.stardust -- I recommend you research Dr Jason Fung a Canadian doctor who has written a book called: The Obesity Code .... he is helping people thru fasting and he is a medical doctor. :) He explains the metabolics of hunger and how insulin resistance works really well. :)
