OMG Thankfully in 2018 you can just but a minuscule adapter that plugs into the USB A adding a whole whopping 1.5mm or so to the device length

I never usually comment on these videos but I felt really compelled to do so here. OK he had an otg cable already so why the hell did he need to reinvent the wheel here. Get an electronic side cutters if you need to cut cable that diameter. Also you tin the copper pads of the existing contacts and tin the wires from the cable. Makes a much neater solder joint. And you are stripping too much insulation off those wires. Horrible solder joints. I've almost 25 years of electronic repair behind me; this just annoys me.
