I love how you teach. I'm just starting to draw and I have been working on the eyes. I watch people shade so I generally know where people put shadows but you explained why they're there. I love how you break down each section into a shape so you get the idea of the 3D version and the way the curves work together. I have been working in pencil but I really enjoyed the way the pen worked for you and the cross hatching. Thank you for explaining instead of showing.

The drawing is really beautiful, and your additional explanation of 3-dimensionality (as per light and shadows) presents a more solid foundation for understanding. You are a born teacher.

Thank you Alphonso for explaining everything in crystal clarity. I have not seen illustration of drawing objects with better understanding of lights and creating real 3d images with very little strokes. I have seen many, but none of them come close to yours. Again, you videos are not only educational but very inspiring. Not only you are an artist but you are an excellent teacher. Thank you so much.

Well done! A very clear and comprehensive demonstration. The only thing you could add is the slight bulging of the surface of the eye where the iris is, deforming the upper lid slightly upward in that area: like a smaller sphere intersecting the large sphere of the eyeball. Again, great job!
@surinfarmwest66458 жыл бұрын
I was going to ask about eyelashes but you beat me to it! Looking at your eye drawings, this and the 5 expressions, adding them could add confusion, as you say, most artists omit them. Thank you very much Alphonso.

I've got to say, this is one of the best tutorials I've seen. I love watching other artists at work, and their ways of teaching. What I particularly love about this tutorial, for a beginner, is that you don't suddenly jump in using the anatomical names of the eye and it's structure. While it's useful to know these names, I think a lot of beginners would be put off, when some people just suddenly whip out , the name of the area they are working on. You have a lovely teaching style. Excellent work my good sir!!

At the 10:00 position on the iris & pupil there is a highlight that is a "hotspot". At the 3:00-5:00 position on the iris, there will be a subtle highlight (not as "hot" as the 10:00 highlight). This is caused by the fact that light is passing through a translucent object; in this case the right edge of the iris. Including this subtle highlight enhances the illusion of the iris being convex and curving outward from the sclera (white part of the eye). Nice, clear tutorial.
