I never break pencils while drawing...they always break somehow while writing.

When drawing, don’t use you’re arm but your wrist, fluid movement is all in the wrist. Also don’t plan your arm on the paper. Yah

That relax tip is the reason why that pencil didn’t break, oh and remember! It’s all in the wrist. Control that grip.

Don’t draw like you write. Let the pencil weight do the work and relax the mind and body. Visualize on how you want your lines to be! Think big. Have line confidence, stopping doing details do gestures. Master perspective with some simple laws that makes sense it so before drawing! Perspective is very vital, every artist needs to know it. Fluid motions, think big and relaxing, use the weight of the pencil to do the movements!

The joy is in the journey. I've found drawing to be an amazing way to relax and hyperfocus on something positive and soothing.

I bought your book last week, after seeing a review on Mind of Watercolor. I'm not a beginner, but wanted to improve my stroke and line variations in texture and control...I'm self taught. So I just went with the first book. Wow, its great. I've really enjoyed going back to the basics but then moving into textures I've never attempted before. I also purchased a fude nib fountain pen and am in love with it. So nice not to have to change pens for line variation. Anyway, I just wanted to say, I have enjoyed your book and now have a better understanding of my own process of rendering complex subjects...Have you considered A followup volume for intermediate to advanced students?

I followed along and tried to replicate what you did. I've never had this much fun drawing before. I got really excited about it! Thank you so much, this was amazing! Could you recommend any other sources of information that focus in this type of things, very simplistic stuff that brings out the detail thought clever use of lines instead of a lot detail. I'm not sure what to call it, but I want more of exactly this type of info. :D

this was a great video, thanks. its funny when u do the cylinder, the vertical is curved with the form whereas the horizontal lines are straight and it looks right. my initial tendency would have been to arc the horizontal lines too! thanks for clarifying

This was so helpful. I've been doing art for a long time now but was never properly trained. I am seeing so many mistakes I've made along the way. You are so generous for sharing all of your knowledge with us! Also I got your book for pen and ink and I am loving it so far. It has been a very challenging and trying process because you really cannot be a perfectionist and you have to deal with the fact that you can't go back and change it. You are awesome, thanks again for all your wisdom

Thank you so much, with your book and tutorials i finally start to learn how to draw faces and realistic stuff after drawing more intuitive lines by starting a drawing and never knew what the outcome was, which is a very interesting way of drawing and often surprised me but I am ready for some growth now i guess. My only question now is: i hear you name all sizes but when i begin with the eye i don t know how big to draw it in the head. So i finally have all measures right but see a face with too big eyes hahahaa Wishing you all the best for 2025, love from the Netherlands
