Your technique of reducing complex items to basic shapes has been most helpful. Thanks you for taking the time to produce these tutorials. Awesome!

This video was incredibly helpful, you ACTUALLY explain the concept, and how it can be done from the most basic way unlike some others who just jump in, and start shading and doing all those stuff, it almost looked more like a speed drawing rather than an ACTUALLY TUTORIAL. Good job.

I have been drawing for a while now, for my own enjoyment, not professionally. Sometimes my drawings come out very well, but other times I am very dissatisfied with them. What I mean is that I am not consistent. I couldn’t really figure out why, until I watched some of your videos on shading. I never considered the idea of using basic forms as the foundation of my drawings. After practicing for a very short while, I can honestly say that I am consistently turning out better work with less effort then I ever have before. Especially with drawing mountains. You provided me with the key that I have been searching for. I know it is a simple concept, but it is something that I have somehow failed to realize on my own. Thank you. These videos are a real godsend to someone like me. You are helping a lot of artists with your work and it is much appreciated. I wish you the best

Okay, I left a comment on a different video earlier explaining how I had been trying to learn to draw for over a year andthat I still wasn't "getting it"... and I felt so frustrated!. I've gone back to these more basic videos again and now after her re-watching them, I'm feeling a bit more confident. I feel like I'm getting it more. I have stuck with your tutorials and I think your work is just brilliant! I want to thank you for making these tutorials and helping me do something I've wanted to do for years, and that is learning how to draw.

Always wanted to draw with pen and ink. Love the stile. But never had any skills or technique. I work with wildlife in Brazil and keep a "naturalist journal" for many years now. Always wanted to draw in it. Saw this video and these tutorials starting from the very basic (a cube!!!) called my attention. I gave it a try and in half an hour following it step by step I was able to draw a rock I never thought I would be able to. Many, many thanks!!! Your tutorial stile is amazing!

Agreed. Define the light source and use consistent lighting. Also, don't make the blocks too small. A rock comprised of hundreds of tiny blocks doesn't looks as realistic as a rock with larger chunkier blocks in my opinion.

@kathleenhancock64258 жыл бұрын
Hi Alphonso, love your tutorials (and your book, which I have). I'm practising rendering rocks but then wondered how I would render rocks slightly sunk in say, wet sand! I'm not having too much success with that, wondered if you have any tips for objects slightly submerged into soft ground? Thank you.
@alphonsodunn8 жыл бұрын
+Kathleen Hancock hmmm....wish I could see some of your drawings to really tell. Try sending them to my FB. In the meantime, try to think of the sand like water or a soft blanket wrapped around the rock and render it just the same except with alittle variation in the texture. Let me know if that helped
