Pencil Sketch Drawing Effect Photoshop Tutorial

In today's Adobe Photoshop video tutorial we're going to create a pencil sketch effect that quickly converts a photograph into a realistic drawing. The result features a mix of rough sketch lines and shading, along with a subtle paper texture which makes the effect much more believable. Choose between a traditional graphic pencil appearance, or toggle off the Black and White adjustment layer to produce more of a coloured pencil crayon look.

It was great the fact you made a smart object of the lately blurred layer. Once you get the job done you can easily fine-tune it by changing the blur amount. Bravo!

Things he did not mention: 1:33 Go to the adjustments tab and click the one that looks like a sorting algorithm (the levels layer) If you don't see the adjustments tab, click window > adjustments, and it will show up. 1:56 If your image is not set to 8-bit, then the filter gallery option isn't available, and you're screwed. It will also happen if your image is in CMYK mode, or has locked layers. But those are changeable.

The effect works best on photos, but if I remember correctly (it has been a while since I made this effect), it produces a flat texture on text/logos, just like the text in the video thumbnail

Apparently, Photoshop Cs2 can't add Gaussian Blur to smart objects making the blur adjustment at the end impossible I had to redo the whole process more than twice. Lol, I think I need an upgrade. Great tutorial btw.

Way too fast and no explanation for where the different tools can be found. Lost me at "Add a levels adjustment layer" could not find that anywhere - my properties tool looks completely different. Have to find another tutorial that explains things better.
