Cool, it's like an intelligent version of those solar wobble figures, but those just pulse at a set time, this appears to detect the pendulum? Is that what I noticed when you restrained it? 👍

Yes, some feedback from the signal generated by the magnet on the pendulum in proximity to the coil.

What transistors did you use to make this work on 5 volts? I want to make one run on 3.7 volts but the original circuit doesnt work on more than 2 volts. I had the same problem as you when prototyping this circuit than transferring to a board but i found a way to have success.

This project was very frustrating for me and I gave up on the larger art piece I had built. This design has just the one coil and is intended to "auto cycle" but I think having a separate trigger coil would be more controllable. As to the transistors, any small signal generic complimentary pair should work. The resistors control the bias and trigger sensitivity and those values would relate to the supply voltage. I think the hard part is matching the pendulum physics to the coil in this design. I had dumb luck at first but I never could get things completely figured out.

Any modification to the circuit other than the removal of the one capacitor? I can't seem to get my circuit running with my DC power supply - the coil is constantly on.

Yes this whole setup is touchy and I actually abandoned the full scale project I was hoping to work on. I have seen some other versions which have two windings on the same bobbin, one to trigger and one to push. Seems these circuits are very picky on the coil turns count and the resistance. I had some things work well on a proto board but fail to work in a soldered circuit board! Frustrating. Sorry I can't be of better help.

Link is in the description to an article with the circuit. Good luck!
