Yes! I mean Penelope tricked the suitors FOR TEN YEARS. You have to be a very smart liar to fool everyone fo three years by "I have to finish this shroud before marring you". And Odysseus was the only reason his men didn't die ten seconds after leaving Troy. When you survive cyclops, witches and demigods, you're unstoppable. I believe Penelope and Odysseus could conquer the Olympus if they wanted.

my latin/greek teacher told us every time we got to Penelope's character that she was the female version of Odysseus, she was just as cunning and strategic, and that this fact made them to have been made for each other. it does saddens me a little to know that popularly Penelope is just "woman who waited" and not literally the smartest non magical woman in greek mythology and someone to be feared.

Penelope was a formidable women with a cunning mind, but Odysseus was proven later in other books such as Circe to be little more than an egotistical adventurer, his mind still lost at sea yearning for bloodlust.

@@gemmasantos8702 Yeah i hadn’t even made that connection, but I think it’s more likely a different storm because of the timeline of Penelope starting the challenge (after her tapestry and right before Odysseus returns) being quite late in the story whereas Odysseus still has years with calypso, it would be quite cool if it was though.

@@gemmasantos8702jorge has stated that it was caused by Poseidon and he used a motif to express that, so I assume Aeolus was just used to contain the winds of it but not create the storm itself.

Your design of Penelope? That’s what good character design looks like. First, she is conventionally pretty. You look at her and you get why the frat boys - I mean suitors- want her to be their trophy wife. (Plus the the fact they would be king of Ithaca) Characters (esp female characters) don’t have to follow society’s standards of beauty. Too many times a female character is designed to be thin (no visible muscles) or any imperfections (scars) when it doesn’t match with the backstory of the character. But in Penelope’s case, it works. She’s the daughter of nobility. If you think that strength only comes in the form of muscles, she looks weak. Like a delicate little flower. But it’s clear she’s more than a pretty face. How she holds herself when she is thinking about the storm? That is a women with an analytical mind. She is concerned by the situation (and unsure what to do) but she holds herself with confidence. She might not understand what is happening, but she just needs time to think about the situation and she will find the answer. And she is able to figure out what the audience knows. You don’t doubt how Penelope was able to keep the suitors at bay for 10 years, raise a child AND run the kingdom. She is Odysseus’s equal. She doesn’t NEED him to lead Ithaca to prosperity. She just wants him hold because he brings her happiness.

Penelope is one of those characters that don’t get enough appreciation (and also get a lot of unwarranted slander). She is everything. She is smart, and calculated, and cunning. She was a sole queen in Ithaca for 20 whole years, first as essentially regent while her husband left for war, and then, when it started looking clear that the king wasn’t coming back, she kept holding the fort, in her son’s name (allegedly). She was powerful enough to hold that throne in her hands for 20 years, hold the kingdom functioning and prospering from said throne, resisting the many suitors trying to undermine her family’s claim (because what new king would allow the son of the old king to inherit him? No, if Penelope was to be married again for the claim to the throne, Telemachus would have been killed) for a decade. Every epithet relating to Odysseus’s cunning is just as fitting and potent for her, and I love that.

Also, to add, Odysseus was the one who choose her as his wife when other men are drooling over Helen of Troy. Like he was summoned to the suitor's party and all, but he wasn't intended to marry Helen, like, EVER. He was there for the ceremory, took a chance to ask Penelope's father's permission to court her, cuz he's a king that was also invited to said event, and the rest is history. He was clearly smitten for Penelope, to the point that the most beautiful woman in the world isn't even in the picture. If that isn't COUPLE GOALS, I don't know what is.

Penelope literally, as an earlier verse states, bought extra time by saying “once I’m done sewing this,” but then undid the stitching she did during the day at night I think in the original Odyssey, it’s three years she does this

@@gamersgamestorm8291 Yes. Penelope used the weaving trick to keep the suitors at bay, after she was discovered because a maid revealed her secret, she gave the suitors the unstrung bow challenge. She knew it was impossible for them to complete the challenge. When Odysseus revealed himself to her, she doubted it was really him and gave him the matrimonial bed challenge. Penelope had a cunning mind of her own.

For all those curious it’s likely that Penelope is between the ages of 35-40 which if one thinks about it adds another layer to the whole time running out thing Suitors wouldn’t be so eager to have Penelope if she couldn’t birth them an heir They know that dynasties last longer

It's a neat detail to zoom in on the distant, rapidly approaching Odysseus as the suitors repeat their chorus. _"Time is fleeting, it's running out--time to be the man of the house"_ takes on a nifty double meaning with the implication that it's going through his head too.

Ok I noted some stuff 1: The suitors seem drunk 2: Penelope looks like the f-ing queen of england 3: When it went from Penelope to Odysseus is just *Chef Kiss* Here is the story!: Penelope was trying to find a man since she thought Odysseus was dead. She wanted to see who could string Odysseus’ bow. No one could. Odysseus was in a beggar costume and walked to Penelope, asking if he could try. The suitors doubted him, but he strung it with ease. Penelope cried with joy, seeing her husband has came back!!!

The only thing you've missed in your synopsis, which is good BTW, is the fact that Penelope is being FORCED into choosing a man. she's not choosing a man because she wants to. she's doing it because of societal pressures (Remember, the society in the Odyssey is far different to society these days) one of the suitors, Antinous, is already eyeing up Penelope for his queen and when he makes comments and Telemachus tries to defend his mother, Antinous beats him severely. The challenge she set was due to the fact that rumors were spread about Odysseus' bow and the only person who could string it was the king. All of the suitors fail and Antinous eventually tries to cheat his way on to the throne when Penelope, who is still queen of the house mind you, orders that the beggar who had just entered (Which is Odysseus in disguise) have a turn. The suitors all doubt his abilities until Odysseus manages to string his own bow. Odysseus rips off his disguise and along with Telemachus, he massacres the suitors one by one. After the last suitor, Antinous, dies. Odysseus and Penelope embrace, lviing happily ever after.

I like that you used the word "mane," given the lion is often a symbol associated with kings. So you could say that's another symbol of the King of Ithaca's hasty return.

Man, I'm going to be an absolute mess when this song comes out. I'm in tears just listening to this snippet, and this art is absolutely perfect. The way Penelope carries herself, confident of herself and her husband, and the way the scene changes to Odysseus, to show that the "buying you time" is finally coming to an end

I love how you added Odysseus returning in the end there, and how Penelope pulls out the bow the suitors failed to string. You can see the emotions Penelope feels having to replace Odysseus. Overall amazing animatic, thank you for this masterpiece gigi! ❤❤

I LOVE the regal way you draw Penelope! The clothes, her stance, her hair, it all screams dignity, intelligence, pride, beauty and willpower, and yet her eyes in the small moments have so much love that one can see how she and Odysseus worked well together and fell in so deep love despite, I think, spending more time apart than they were together. Also, with her cunning and stance even when faced by the ruthless suitors' pressure, it isn't hard to see how she can still accept Odysseus even after all he has done, too. (Also wanted to comment on how well you managed to draw her with many feminine elements, like the hairstyle and dress, because dignified women in power is my platonic turn-on and it is so cool.)

Ahhh I love this! I absolutely ADORE Penelope’s design, she looks so elegant - and I could practically see the lightbulb when she gets an idea at ‘unless…’ and her fond look at ‘I’ll be here…’ !! Penelope opening the door to the impatient suitors and just turning away with a unbothered side glance :D what a queen !! THE THE ZOOM THROUGH THE WINDOW TO ODYSSEUS!!! Very epic!! :D

THOSE!!! ENDING!!! SHOTS!!! ARE SO FREAKING COOL!!! I love the way that the camera pans so much and also the bag of thread and weaving materials aaaahhh and then Odysseus' expression is fantastic, plus with the pan of Penelope walking by and THEN it goes to him I just--I love it! Ohh my goshh.. This is SO GORGEOUS... I can't even with this, oh my gosh.. Penelope's design is actually breathtaking, no wonder all of the suitors are so quick to want her, LOL.. No but seriously, you're so, so incredibly talented, and your works are always so gorgeous to see!! I can't wait to see more of it!!
