To non-US filmgoers the propaganda elements were often obvious, but many of these films were good, so (with the exception of few anti-american fanatics) most of us laughed them off or dismissed them as secondary. The difference with China though, is that no one can make a film with an opposite theme. And I must admit that when it comes to self-criticism I have never seen a nation be so harsh on themselves as (some) Americans have. He then goes on to describe the steps in which this weapon, this ideology, would erode civilization and make it waste away. Listening to him today describing it so well that long ago is...eerie, understated.
