@@kicik5038 they couldn't keep up, you can actually see from when they started moving that there were 3 lagging behind, they must have gotten separated from the rest in the zero visibility blizzard..at least that's what the other BBC clip which were segments spliced from this one wants us to believe, there's hope it's just BBC's narrative to create drama but I don't doubt that it does happen regardless.

Not for long. Most of them likely died later. Only around 18% of emperor chicks survive their first year.

They're not even necessarily related. I've seen videos refer to it as a kindergarten group. Chicks tend to stick together when their parents are away finding food. Emperor chicks as well as King penguin chicks form those groups.

That's Not Me I watched the other parts. That can never succeed for two reasons: 1. Chicks left alone die within 2 minutes. 2. Only single males try to adopt, but they have no partners to take care of the chick while they go to fish.

You're trippin, penguins in captivity are living the life and the envy of every wild penguin. We arent talking about orcas. Penguins in captivity are happy af. They never have to worry about stuff like this and even worse, being eaten by a seal when they go get fish. What's better? A dead penguin in a seal's belly or a live penguin living in the lap of luxury at moody gardens?

With the nature instinct, the adults can find the colony where they were born. I bet say the same instinct helps the chicks find way back home. So the chicks know where to heading, it's own energy and the temperature would be the critical points of making it or not.
