As someone who used to work in optics, people like this are depressingly common. So many people seem to think that prescribing and dispensing glasses is as simple as reading letters off of a chart and purchasing frames that correspond to those letters. People would accuse me and my colleagues of trying to scam them after telling them that they now needed to consider reading glasses on top of distance glasses. They wouldn't believe us when we explained that new prescriptions can take time to get used to, and are rarely perfect straight away. They would get angry for pointing out that the basic eye test they booked online is only capable of determining their prescription, and is therefore not suitable for ascertaining why their eyelids turned swollen and painful last Tuesday. Optics was hell; the general public seems to be of the delusion that the business of glasses is as simple as browsing a catalogue like you would a menu in a restaurant. People like this influencer aggravate me as they encourage the delusions of the people we try so hard to help.

@@MorganVsTheInternet Pure essential oil is very expensive - even for a scammer, I doubt she's suggesting that you put anything more than a "small amount" of essential oil (especially as a cure to glasses, which would come out cheaper). In the case of the blend she's referring to, it comes at like 75 cents per drop (assuming you use all of the 10 mL without any waste, for a total of around 200 drops). EDIT : after making a bit of research, I found out that she claims to have used it "every day, twice, for a year" and to only have used "a little bit more" than a 10ml bottle - even if we say, for the sake of the argument, that she uses 1 drop per wash (which would be impossible), then that'd come out at 730 drops per year, more than what you could get with 20mL of essential oil, nevermind 10mL! I don't know what's worse - the fact that she didn't even double-check if her bullshit at least made *some* sense, somewhere (in this case, her claimed habit and her claimed amount of essential oil used as to maintain this habit for a year don't match) and if she didn't want to do so, that she didn't refrain from needless lies which would end up contradicting eachother/straying away from common sense further than even most conspirationist would believe - or the fact that people are falling for such obvious bullshit. Even if you're a conspirationist/believer in these alternative medecine type of bullshit, then it also requires you to 1. have a lot of cash to waste on this 2. lack ANY critical thinking skills (not even the bare minimum - no research, nothing is brought into question, etc.) 3. got bad eyesight or have a close family member who does - who is she even scamming !?!

Im a dual-licensed optician and i deal with glasses all day. I had to learn the anatomy of the eye and why exactly people are near-sighted and far-sighted. This lady probably just had an optometrist tell her she needed a mild reading RX and she got upset then latched onto the only thing that made sense to her lol

I think you're being way too generous and that she actually just had the thought that lots of people wear glasses and that's a great demographic to scam since everyone who needs corrective eye wear would like to not need that

I accidentally broke my glasses last year and I was stuck without glasses for like a month and a half while I scrambled to get new ones Genuinely couldn't do a thing the whole time because I couldn't see past 2 feet in front of me Who knew all I needed to do was yoga my eyes and reconstruct my spirit

I can only help but assume these people have never dealt with an insecurity before so they perceive being told they need glasses as being bullied or something. It's quite comical actually.

ironically the same people who think wearing them makes you look like a nerd. every day i continue to be surprised and ashamed by the stupidity of humanity. people are so gullible some even believe the chocolate milk comes from brown cows bullshit they were told as a child, actual adults are walking around believing garbage, and it makes me lose hope for our future as a species.
@yuki97kira Жыл бұрын
If theyre that insecure, then get contacts. The pricing is similar or close to glasses (mine is, and theyre clear contacts), they just have to learn to wear it and get used to it, it only took me a month to. Glasses isnt bad. However, if they wanna wear contacts, especially in cold climate, it wont fog up. One of the good thing, and one reason i wear it.

I went from perfect eyesight to being unable to see my hand infront of my face in the space of 3 years. My parents and I tried everything to slow my vision loss, especially when we were told that my optometrist was concerned I’d end up legally blind. Thankfully my vision levelled out on its own though the glasses I need are very thick. The fact that she’s taking advantage of people that are likely in the same position I was or even people who do end up going blind sickens me. I’d like to think I’m smart enough to see through this but I know when I was desperate and panicking I probably would have fell for it.

I can personally attest to this. After letting go of the belief that I couldn't see, my eyes were able to grow back after being eaten by a Florida Man. Truly the power of a growth mindset.

Funnily enough, I thought I had good eyesight for a third of my school career until I tried on my sister's glasses and could quite literally see everything 10x sharper, just from putting them on for 3 seconds. I would rather not have them but it's clearly not a neurological thing

As someone that only wears blue light glasses, I can confirm that nothing changes without them. They are in fact a scam.
@yesterdayitrained Жыл бұрын
1000% When I first heard about blue light glasses (I work in IT), I did my research, and no, they do not do anything they claim to do. When I need new glasses, I find it interesting that although blue light filters are always mentioned, once they finish their 1-sentence spiel, and I just say “No thanks!”, there is no push-back, ever. They know it’s BS too, but are obligated to offer it. Thanks for your comment- it’s true, and allowed me to add a little more info, so hopefully others won’t blindly accept the blue light claims. _Edit: Apologies for the novella_

I mean, you can probably get some beefy blue light glasses, especially the sort designed for use with lasers. They won't really do much except protect you from a specific wavelength and keep you from seeing it, but eh, it's pretty cool
