I asked my friend for help on what to do next. He took one look at my stats, saw that I had put all my points into strength and gave me back the controller. I've been where that dude was with feeling like I had to argue with everyone and feeling like I was fighting an army of people that I couldn't back out of. It's rough when you feel like that and I've been in that same position of pain. When I tried to express that pain to people all I would get is hate in return, making it worse. Killing Ornstein first is easier if you ask me. Phase 2 Smough is a bit less challenging imo, with hitboxes that are easier to read (as Charlie demonstrated, P2 Ornstein is tricky). Not only that, but it's easier to distance Smough a little bit in phase 1 (his attacks are also more obvious so harder to miss), while Ornstein will always be in your face, so might as well kill him first. In a SL1 run if you have a fire infused cudgel (which is a huge pain to get without the TP) and the red ring tear you can kill Ornstein in 3 hits.

Yup! I re-played it half a year ago, or something, for the first time in more than 7 to 8 years, and I agree: it is a flawless masterpiece that still manages to capture all your attention, submerge you inside its world, and force you to live under its conditions until you master it fully. Mechanically holds up, graphically hold up, challengingly it holds up, artistically it holds up. I played it back to back 5 times, doing all the builds I remembered, and it didn't bored me one damned minute. A flawless 10/10, the greatest game ever made.

I decided to do a similar run because I had never used the Hunter starting class and I had never started without the Master Key (I still skipped the Depths, in basically the same way Charlie did). A few key differences were that my guy was blue instead of red lol, I got a lucky Black Knight Greatsword drop instead of the regular sword, and I used it until I got the Very Large Ember, at which time I switched back to the Zwei. Oh, and also, I didn't kill Lautrec early because A) I prefer Havel's Ring to FaP, and B) the Dingy set the Firekeeper drops is my favorite light armor set in the game. (You do have to level it up a bit for it to overtake the Gold-hemmed Black set, but it's worth it IMO.) Edit: OK, that Painted World stuff was hard to watch. Rushing from place to place kinda worked out prior to here, but holy shit. Chat telling him about the shortcut and he goes the wrong way when he's right there--up the tower instead of to the bridge with the big dragon that he'd have seen if he'd just turned his camera left for a second lol, then he rushes through the intended route getting repeatedly annihilated by bonewheels. (For anyone that struggles on these guys, yes, you should try to pull them one at a time, but also high-poise armor is incredibly helpful because it reduces the likelihood of getting stun-locked). Then once he *finally* kills them all, he goes everywhere but where the lever is. Yeah, it's dark in there, but it's still hard to believe he plays this every year.

Man, I know DS1 encourages it, but the "1 attack, roll back, 1 attack, roll back" playstyle is so dull. The game is a classic for its world design and atmosphere, not for the gameplay, I can tell you that. At least the Black Knight Sword is strong enough that you can alternate between one handed and two handed with no problem and the heavy attacks are satisfying if you time them right, but Charlie isn't even doing that because he doesn't have to

it depends on the weapon, also he is missing so much dps in his playstyle by rolling away so much. he can sprint atk then downslash, or just downslash+upslash, dodge poke+heavy upslash. u do it naturally too so it stays fresh, but no i remember in my first playthrough i didnt even roll unless there was absolutely no other option, i wasnt using heavy armor/hyper armor/poise either. used zweihander , just utilized its massive range and hitbox as well as stunlock potential and stunlocked everything to de&th. yes, even super version of smough get stunlocked too. i just git really good at distancing and positioning and peridocal R2 spamming Manus, Kalameet, Seath apart from these 3 everything can be stunlocked. the game let you choose your playstyle. so it was a massive whiplash jumping into ds3 cuz i now actually had to learn how to dodge lmao if anything every streamers' playstyle in ds1 being a this homogenous slop is just a side effect of roll spamming in elden ring if anything. kinda makes ds1 stream unwatchable. at least in ds1 it lets you do how you wanted to play, you wanna be an unstoppable tank who cant flinch? got this armor has enough poise to shrugh off. want to be a shield turtljng knight that can block atks from gods? just upgrade your starting heater shield to max and you got it too. Focus purely on distancing and positioning instead of avoidance(dodge) and use heavy weaponry's stunlocl potential to victory? you got colossal weapons such as zwei and clubs. but now it is just dodge atk, FromSoft gotta innovate the gameplay loop's formula since Lies of P already exists
