I am not a penholder, but at my club the common frustration expressed by penholders are that if they get good with RPB, they run the risk of relying on it too much in a match because it makes quick transition to forehand less natural and consistent, less of a problem if they are afforded more of a windup.

I am blessed with the ability to play both shakehand and penhold, and I've found that slicing with the rpb is very difficult. When I play penhold, I slice with the traditional penhold backhand and I drive with the rpb using the rpb on the vast majority of backhands. My advice for penholders is to go with the rpb because it gives you so much more power than the same side of the paddle backhand

Please make more vids on penhold, there is a scarcity of content for this in youtube. I recently switched from shakehand to penhold, I found it very intuitive to use forehand, I am slowly getting used to rpb. Many times the racquet start slipping when I play with rpb. Does using a penhold blade solve this grip issue?
@VictorMoraga

Absolutely I'll make more content for Penhold players. Talking about the grip, I tried different stuff, like powder, gymnasts chalk and gymanst spray, because I had the same problem like you described. My solution was using a thin athletics tape in 2 fingers and I fixed the problem. Hope the tape can help you 🙏

I been watching your rpb strokes again and again. It’s quite a little different from most players. You seem to use very little wrist motion which probably contribute to your consistency but yet you get alot of spin on the ball! Pretty amazing. Your elbows also seem to be in a pretty Consistent position and you mainly pivot your arms around it. Again consistency yet spinny. Do you find that your rear finger taping helps with your rpb strokes and consistency?
@VictorMoraga
@VictorMoraga 3 жыл бұрын
@@oliverpool good eye 😉. I found that the pivot in the elbow works for me. I saw some players using more wrist than forearm and arm. For me, the mix between wrist, forearm and arm is key. But that mix, is up to your needs. For shots, on the table or close to the table, mainly wrist and some support with forearm. For middle and long, I love to use more forearm and big arm like Tennis backhand 😄. I know maybe sounds crazy, but we can mix them in any way we want to be efficient. 👊 Finger taping helps me to avoid to swipe fingers, and helps to the consistency 😊👍

Family basement player here, trying to get my verse backhand penhold, but many times when I hit i either make contact with the wooden side sending the ball straight up, or I miss, but when I do hit it , many times it arches and spins down to bounce on my side, I rarely get it over the net . Any tips?
@VictorMoraga
@VictorMoraga 2 жыл бұрын
When I tried developing that RPB. I released some balls from my hand, leave it to bounce once and then use my RPB flat to the other side of the table. I mean your rubber in the backhand 90 degrees against the table. The idea is to perform the motion without spin just a flat ball while you're comfortable with the RPB motion. And then, you can add wrist and change the orientation for making spin. I hope it helps to you.

Ohhh great video! I have a question that havent been able to solve Is it realistic to create a style where I use both TBH and RPB? If so, what would be the strategy? I was thinking of blocking and flat hitting with TBH, and looping with RPB. Or is it not feasable? Should I just pick one?

Overall do you think traditional or reverse backhand is better?
@VictorMoraga
@VictorMoraga 2 жыл бұрын
Hey 👋. I really like both. But for efficiency Reverse takes advantage because your paddle is ready in position for blocking or attacking. For example, I tried to play with both sometimes blocking with "Traditional" and then Attack with "Reverse", I wasted precious time during that transition. For that reason, I love both but being honest I should make a complete transition to RPB. Take care 🙌 🏓

Cool video. Would it make sense for a young penholder to not learn tbp at all or at least very late? Tbp has certain advantages, mostly when someone aims at your body or elbow but I feel having both adds an element of doubt and an extra decision. Felix Lebrun for example plays only rpb, even for his backhand push
