Beautiful and reliable older reel- Nice work ,Dennis- From Jersey I see? Part of me is from New Jersey, some kind man saved my life and blessed me- by donating his Liver a little over 5 years ago. Some of my Transplant team flew to Jersey, and helicoptered it to John Hopkins ,in Baltimore MD. - I now live in the OBX, outer banks NC. by the ocean, and fish almost everyday. 😊

Hi Dennis, A reel outstanding effort ! The double anti reverse mechanisms are very cool. This video and reel are one of my all time favorites. A huge thanks to Dick for sending you the screw starter. Every reel toolbox should have one ! Best Regards, Cons

Dennis, I've also found that using gunsmith's hollow ground screwdrivers greatly minimizes the risk of messing up screw slots! Pretty easy to get a cheap set from Wheeler and it works for all kinds of reels. - Jeremy

Thanks for the tip Jeremy. I will look into that. Unfortunately, most of the reels I get with damaged screws come in because the owner or shop got too aggressive in trying to remove them. I will look into your recommendation - Dennis

I don’t have any Penn reels newer than the black/gold Z reels. I like these spinfishers that were made in the USA. They are fine reels with a great reputation. Your luck with removing pinion bearings continues to be infuriating. LOL Dennis, to my ear this reel is still quite noisy. Normally I’d say it’s bearing noise but you replaced the bearings so maybe my ear is wrong. I really like the double anti-reverse with the ability to cut off the AR clicker. Great video Dennis! - Chris

When the noise is not caused by bearings, it is usually worn gears. I believe that is what is going on here - Thanks Chris

Wow, a triploid cause , not uncommon though, and you're right I dread to see metal filings anytime I'm working on ANYTHING!!! means somethings screwed up somewhere, nice job getting the reel back fishing, they're tough and dependable, I have the 850 SS and it's a beast!

We'll Done Dennis . She Seems To Work Fine Now. Those Shavings Might Have Been From Something Cross Threaded Or Rubbing .

Hi Dennis. Greatly inspired by you I've taken up an interest in old spinning reels. I've recently acquired a 1960's D.A.M. Hobby 215, which was made in West Germany. It's a very peculiar reel, I think. Like all of the great D.A.M. reels from the era, it has a metal body that could probably withstand a bomb - but the interior is the cheapest and simplest plastic setup. Do you happen to know this reel? On mine, the anti-reverse mechanism doesn't work. I'm not sure if it's even worth trying to fix it. Looking at it, I doubt that it worked for more than half an hour since the original owner of the reel started using it.

I don't know this reel. I will need to do some research on it. Thanks

I have a couple 650SS's as well as a 750SS. I have a problen with one of the 650's; it doesnt wind the line level on the spool but piles more on the top and bottom of the spool with a hollow middle. What is causing this?

Check to make sure the bail is tight and not floppy. It may be a weak bail spring that is not holding tension on the wire
