4:10 I learned this trick and wanted to perform it at a party of a friend. I put effort into making the video and everything, even slightly upgraded the trick with a false shuffle and bridge, so it really looks like the deck is mixed and I have no control of the position of the cards whatsoever. And then, at the very beginning, my friend's friend who I showed the trick to said "If it's really not in your control give me the deck and let ME mix it." She screwed it all up, not respecting the rule to watch the trick first, she tried to debunk it right away. Somebody give me a virtual hug please.

Oh, that opening on the fundamentals of sleight of hand, I felt, really came together a little later on when they concluded with a slow bebop using the terms while Teller repeated the demonstration.

They updated the card trick for the Internets, and to allow the deck to be shuffled. Instead of starting off with the 3 of clubs at the top of the deck you start with it hidden under an envelope. You tell them to shuffle it and do whatever they want to the deck since you have the card you'll force. Once they are done you bring out the envelope with the card and tell them to sign the envelope, have them look away for a pen and put the envelop with the card under it on top of the deck. When they turn back you take the envelope and have them sign it, and then put the top card (which is the card you just placed there) in the envelope without looking at it. Then you go to Penn & Teller's grave, which has the 3 of clubs on it, and tell them to take the envelope out and look at the card.

I've done a hybrid of this forced card trick. I hid an identical card in a place in a friend's home. I later did a trick to my friend at my home. I failed miserably of course. Oh well.... Later when talking to my friend i asked about something relevant to where the card was hidden. They found it hidden within their stuff.

@@yaosio its not hard to update it, i am merely thinking back to glory days of VCR back when technology was quirky fun, made alot of strange noises. One could feasibly feel like mad scientist if they had all the gizmos and tools to play cassettes, video cassettes, records, diskettes and data carrying cassettes for their 8-bit. Just listen to 90s PC (with PC speaker) start up! i love that.

No one will believe me, but I swear on that stack of Bibles and on my own life that I did this trick for my mom and the three of clubs was on the top of the deck. SHE even shuffled it. We don’t know how to do magic and that’s the first trick I’ve ever done. I picked up the card towards her and asked her if it was her card. She said yes in a sort of impressed way (I thought she was mocking me), so I turned the card around and I swear to you I thought I was looking straight at the face of a demon. Moral of the story, that will NEVER happen again ever in my life but I’m so glad it did. Also moral of the story, if you sit around doing nothing but watching Penn and Teller for six hours instead of doing whatever it is you should be doing, you might get haunted by the three of clubs.
