Hello Dennis. I got the reel from my neighbor. He told me that it had broken and that he took it apart to see if he could fix it. You can see the result . Please do what ever needs to be done. I will be back Thursday. Thank you. David

Dennis I enjoy watching your videos, I've learned a lot watching them. As a result I am able to work on my own reels, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

Glad to help. That is why I started the channel - to help keep reels fishing and to teach folks how to DIY - Thanks for the note and for watching - Dennis

I'd love to hear the story from the owner. I'm with you - I think this was hidden by the second hand seller.

I hope it was sold as a parts reel!

Hi Dennis, Well That Was A Surprise . I Agree It Looks Like Someone Pulled A Fast One . Unless Of Course He Got It For A Buck ! Looking Forward to Seeing It Repaired.

I agree. If reels could talk, I would like to hear that one - Dennis

My goodness! Question: I am familiar with the modern Pursuit, Fierce, Battle, and the high end Slammer. I am not familiar with this reel. Was it made before these? Metal frame? It looks very much like a Pursuit/Fierce/Battle except that main gear cross-section looks thin. I was curious what the differences are. Thanks as always.

It was made at the same time as the others were when introduced - around 2013 and you can still buy the current version - The Conflict II series today. The rel is positioned above the Penn Battle - Dennis

Hi Dennis, This looks to be the case of "The Conflicted Monster Fish" ?!! As the story goes a Monster Fish was swimming by one day and saw this awesome bait, got hooked and decided to go for a swim in the opposite direction !! The Fisherman cranked on the handle as hard as he could. (instead of pulling up and winding down ?) The Fish zigged, instead of zagged ( the nerve of some fish !!) and then blew up the reel from the inside out !! (The main gear disintegrates from an internal molecular failure - gear parts and bearing are blown out of the sideplate, w no injury to the angler. (thankfully) Fish gets to the boat, decides he might be dinner (a fish bummer) and jumps free after an unsuccessful netting attempt (#!>#) by the sore- armed fisherman. (Tomorrow is a new day !) Moral of the story: Fish big fish w big reel, little fish w little reel !!!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it !!!! Thanks as always for a great video. All the best... Cons

Wow - I'll go with that, unless the reel starts talking and says something differently! Thanks Cons

Hi Dennis, I have a question about an old Penn SS 4400 I just serviced if that would be ok. I think I put everything back as it should be, but it has something weird going on now. When I spin the handle fast on it, it has a wobble to it like something is out of balance or something has too much play in it. I have other older spinning reels and they don’t do what this one is doing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I’m the original owner but haven’t used the reel for over 20 years so I’m not sure if it was doing this before or not. Love your videos, keep up the good work 👍👍

The wobble is usually associated with a bent bail wire. It may be riding too low versus the original position or it may be pushed to one side or the other causing a change in the weight distribution. - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Thank You for the response. The reel has been moved around a lot in its life and not surprised the bail might have got tweaked at some point.

Always a possibility.

Where does the Conflict lie in the Penn line of reels? I love these “why reels fail” videos. I thought I was going to have a failed reel today but I got is fixed. I worked on a Shakespeare 2450 (blue Ohmori) reel. It had a ton of sand and hardened grease throughout. I replaced both bearings as they were seized and it took three hours to clean it up completely. Finally it has gotten a 2nd Chance. This Penn Conflict is in terrible condition. If he bought this reel in this condition I’m Vern sorry. I hope you can fix this one fishing again. - Chris

The Conflict was positioned above the Battle in their line up. Glad to hear you saved another classic and have given it a 2nd Chance! Best wishes Chris - Dennis

Chinese manufactured junk. There is no way you would see gear damage on the Penn USA built vintage reels with their brass and bronze main gears.
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
It must have taken some force to shatter this one inside the case. Then again, all of the pieces were cleaned out, so who knows what happened
