Update after 2 years of using two of the guides ceramic inserts broke. I believe they have addresses this issue by using stainless guides

Just bought this same combo for big cat fish and stripers ! Paid $65.18 + Tax. For that amount of money you are getting a very good set up ... might use it for ocean stuff too !

L Donaldson I have the pursuit in the 5000 size, couple of the guide inserts cracked but it was from neglect. Have caught some big fish in it tho. Not sure if the blanks are the same but the guides are for sure

@@patrickelisha4240 is it the combo. Like you have the 5000 reel on the pursuit rod that came with it. I just got the pursuit 3 combo with 6000 reel. The rod just says pursuit 3 on it. On the 3 the guides are single piece stainless with no inserts. Thanks for the reply. Hard to find anything on them.

Mine is the pursuit 2 rod and reel combo, the 3 has good improvements, has carbon drag discs, seems like they fixed the guide issue as well

I got the battle 2 8000 on a ten foot surf rod. I use it for trophy cats and anything else. The fierce 2 is amazing as well but I'd invest a few more dollars and get the battle 2. Just for the drag system and sealed bearings.

I just bought a fierce 3 8000, got hung up in the intercoastal using 20lb mono, broke the end off about 14" down trying to free the line. $ 120 combo i have to return. I won't buy Penn anymore

That's something I have the fierce 3 5000 combo and got the sinker stuck in a tree testing it Brought the branch down but didnt break the rod Then again I took my time with it But yanked the hell out of it until that green branch snapped

Ya maybe it had a defect, bass pro exchange for a new one with no problem, I haven't got to use the new one to much, but were planning a charter in July so we will see how it fairs when I hook some dolphin or kingfish. Happy fishing 🐟
