Penn Pursuit 3 2500 review, it's not an extensive technical review. Just my opinion and experience with it. The Penn Fierce 3 and Battle 2 are great reels also. We aren’t doing a vs video, just what we think of the Pursuit 3’s bang for its buck. It has the same smooth HT-100 drag system as the entire Penn spinning reek line up including the Spinfisher VI.
Capacity- 10lb drag and 160yds of 20lb braid
It’s paired with a 6’6” MH GX2 Ugly Stik. Kim didn’t like the foam grips so we added the yellow tube shrink wrap grips.

I actually have a pursuit 8k that I use for sharks and after multiple failures I had to switch away from the kastking extremus 50lb that I had on there to a name brand braid but I have no complaints and this is from someone in the Tampa area, I’ve nearly been spooled by sharks before, dunked the reel a few times, had it pulled out of the sand spike and across the beach through the sand and it’s still almost as smooth as when I got it

Joseph Olinger ... hard to beat for the price. My nephew just dropped a Pursuit III 4000 in the water Saturday. Luckily he was able to grab the line but the bail was open so he had to pull all the line in before the reel would come up. I brought it home and re-greased it 🤞🤞 time will tell how it holds up. The video of him dropping will be coming out soon.

@@SaltyStrikes Hi mate, I will be targeting a fish we call Mulloway, similar to your red drum, same family I am led to believe, the grow to 90lbs or so. Its every surf fisherman's dream to catch a 50lb + specimen. Also Australian salmon, not a true salmon but a salt water species similar to your bluefish. We get big hard running eagle rays, plenty of sharks. In fact the spot I fish gets plenty of them this time of year, from manageable ones to down right unstoppable monsters. Looking forward to testing the reel out, am also going to get a 6000.have several different rods but my favourite is a blank from the states, an old school sabre 10 foot 540 awesome rod.I have no go pro or the like but am planning on starting up my own channel, any tips as to what cameras you use and editing software etc would be choice, cheers.

@SaltyStrikes Sad to say, might be one of those, new = lower quality cases. PENN might be stinging out on the production in order to be more profitable? Hopefully that's not the case and it's just the pursuit due to a design flaw or something. Awesome that you tried them man. Thanks for the feedback. Will pick up more pursuit III's, not 4's 🤙

jay johnson agreed as shown in the video where it did get spooled and it has its limitations, but the point is that it was pushes beyond its limits more than a few times and survived and still functions properly. She has a 4000 but prefers the 2500, you can lead a horse to water ...... 🤷‍♂️

What's the difference between the 2500 and the 3000? I'm considering putting it on an ugly stik 6'6" medium rod that I have. I was thinking about using it as a back up all around rod for maybe pier fishing, inshore or as a charter boat rod in the bay or ocean(about 70 feet). I'm up in NY and already have a 4000 reel size.
@SaltyStrikes
@SaltyStrikes 4 жыл бұрын
... I think there’s about 3 lbs of drag difference and hold about 20-30 yards of braid. I wouldn’t use it for an ocean reel, probably inshore only. It reel depends what your fishing for but most thinks in the ocean will spool that 13lbs of drag. We don’t fish up north but down here you pretty much need 5000 or higher offshore. I know you guys got some big Strippers up there 👏👏👍. Inshore for snapper, trout, flounder, sheepshead, Mackerel and all that jazz the 3000 is perfect.

Don't forget one of the benefits of a spinning reel is that you can add drag with your hand by just grabbing the spool. Sucks to get spooled like that while tightening the drag down. Just grab the spool.

... hooks rust and fall out, especially circle hooks which are designed to minimize gut and gill hooks by hooking in the corner of the mouth. When your fishing for Snapper and Mackerel you don’t use 80lb line and 10/0 hooks. By-catch is inevitable. These select clip were the exception not the rule. It’s just mean to highlight the Pursuits ability to take a surprise beating and keep on ticking.

you're hooking into stuff that is WAY too big for that reel, which is a bummer cause this review gave me basically no information. If you're hooking into big rays and sharks in that location you should be using at least a 5000 series reel with 50 lb test.. Why not hook into something small/medium sized to test a small/medium reel with 30 lb braid?
@SaltyStrikes

marcusthemammal ... this was not a tutorial on appropriate reel and line size for catching fish or else would have labeled it so. The catches in the video where the exception not the rule. This was just highlights of the worst case scenarios and the reel didn’t fail and still functioning perfectly even now almost a year later. Attesting to the quality of it. By-catches can’t be helped, it’s a part of fishing. You don’t completely change your setup for fishing for Snapper or Mackerel because one Ray or Shark comes along every now and again but I’m sure you know that. Thanks for the input 👍.
