Nice reel. I’ve enjoyed watching a great many of your videos, Dennis. One thing that always impresses me is the ease with which you dissect, service, and reassemble even the most complex reels.

I have a reel just like that. It spent 25 years in a box of old reels in my garage. That thanks to you is in perfect working condition now . I would love to find one that looks like this to switch out my parts to . Mine ( which I bought in the late 70’s and passed it along to my son ) was worked hard and put away wet ! It looks bad but I am going to use it this summer I love using my antiques! I found the plastic clicker that goes in the back of the spool on eBay after around 6-7 months of searching my saved store connections. For $4.00! Great job Keep on doing what you’re doing. ! We appreciate what you do.

Bought one like that at Modells back in the early 80’s.

That would make sense. Gotta go to Mo's

I had one of those I bought in the early 80's and it was a great performing reel. Unfortunately is was stolen. The newer models from all manufacturers are smoother, but the older stuff was sure easy to maintain. I do prefer the modern anti reverse.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Older and definitely built to last with minimum maintenance. Hard to beat that equation! Thanks for watching and for sharing your memory

You mentioned the Daiwa 7000C had bearings. I bought a 7000 Millinia in a small tackle shop in Japan while in the Navy in the 1970's, same as the C but just one bearing.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm - I just checked each version of the reel schematics and all show the 3 bearing set up. I am wondering if there was a different version sold in Japan. Thanks - Dennis

I replaced a worn bushing in the cover with a bearing because the bushing wasn't available anymore, it took the slop out of the handle but doesn't really seem to make the reel smoother. Hard to pick between the Daiwa or Penn silver series, I seem to use the Daiwa C series the most.

The Daiwa always wins when I compare it to the Penn Silver series. Thanks

I enjoyed the video because i was following while trying to repair my Penn 105c reel.. it was going pretty well until putting the wire piece back in corrrect position to aquire pressure or fotce needed for the piece with the downward tab l to be able to activate the stop portion of the gear.. my reel just travels backwards or either foward continueously in either direction.. can you help me with this problem?

You need to remove the toggle arm from the lower case and pull up on the shaft. One end of the spring goes in the hole on the bottom of that cam. The other end rests in the "V" groove of the case. To seat this, get the springs set in the locations and then twist the cam to set the tension on the spring. Push down on the bar to lock it in and reinstall the lower case lever - Dennis

That little screw on the anti reverse dog is called a shoulder screw.

Dear Sir... How powerful is this machine?
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
This is a very strong reel capable of bring in big saltwater fish in the 25-30 pound category. It is simple in design and does not break easily.

Dennis, I have three in this series - 103, 104, and 105. None of mine have the C after the number. Ar one point someone told me that the C meant made in China but you have proved that not to be true. Are these totally different reels or what? What does this C actually mean? My reels look identical to this reel as far as I remember. I thought lithium grease was bad for fishing reels. I certainly have never used it. One of mine, the 104, came to me with that AR ratchet put in backwards. It is the nicest of all of my Penn silvers and was easily repaired. I have collected examples of almost all of the silver series from this era - Daiwa (the best), Penn, Olympic, Maxam, Ryobi, Shimano, and Sportfisher (Kmart). Daiwa is the only complete set that I have. Is the hole in the rotor of this 105C there for ease of lubrication of the AR or bearing? You were cetainly right about looks often being deceiving. Beautiful job on a beautiful reel! - Chris

According to Mysticparts.com, the "C" versions were made in China. Not sure on that
@stever.35802 жыл бұрын
@@2ndChanceTackle The C series I own have made in Japan cast into the reel seat. I don't think Penn would make reels in China and falsely label them as made in Japan.
