Use this reel in upstate New York for spawning Kings , it’s very solid . Replaced my okuma epixor which bit the dust after many years of service. I spooled it up with 12 lb ande pink and that’s it . Highly recommend penn ..... I have models from the original “ greenie “ all the way to the current spinfisher and they all have served me well. These aren’t just reels , these will last for generations ... a little heavy but so worth it

Yes, it would. It's got the stopping power that anything that starts to run you can stop.

I use a penn pursuit 8000, a lower end reel for a Penn, but it's working out very well for shark fishing in the surf, I got it spoiled with 40 lb. Power pro, it brought in a smaller dusky quick, so considering the reel in this video is much more expensive, it should be great.

Use it for plugging from surf at times- but in back bay as well

Big size jump between the two. The 4500 holds 200 0f 30 lb braid.
@RioFastRacer11 жыл бұрын
...I also plan to use about maybe 50lb braided line on it...back in the day when i used alot I had extra spools with thinner line for quick changing for lighter fishing..I might consider ordering and extra spinfisher spool for that later....im leaning towards 5500 but maybe i need a 4500...not sure.

jandhtackle ...Im having trouble deciding what size spinfisher v. 4500, 5500 or 6500.....I plan to use it on a 7 to 8 foot rod.....really what I want (for the time being until i add more reels) is a do it all reel. I fish for redfish, trout, bass lures, catfish and alligator gar. Ive seen folks here with tiny walmart reels land 4 to 5 foot gars. Gar fishing is my favorite cuz I love the fight...but I realing want a reel that can be an all-around even if it's not ideal for all fishing. thanks
@RioFastRacer11 жыл бұрын
Thank You for the reply.....I just bought a used very good condition Penn Legion Xtra Fast Action rod 7'6' super cheapo now just need to decide on the reel. Would a 4500 still be good enough for my all-around combo or the 5500
@AZfishrman0111 жыл бұрын
If I paired this with a 7'6 or 8' Penn Legion rod, would the reel be a little too big? I mainly want to inshore fish for redfish and flounder as well as have a rod that I can use for plugging in the surf as well. Should I go w/ the 4500 size?

I saw that- I don't like how it's got so many holes to get debris in- more spots to clean out etc, plus I think it isn't as good of a reel as the spin fisher v for the money. Would a spin fisher 4500 hold adequate line of my 30# braid- 200 yards? Not sure.

I will go fishing for jacks in FLorida! So is the 5500 model to big or should i use it? Thnaks for resposing

My comment didn't finish- I was saying I had a penn battle 5000 that I was using- but at just over 20 ounces it seemed a little heavy on the rod..but to go down to the 4000 I think 30# capacity was like 200 yd. I'm thinking about spin fisher or the battle . Even the quantum boca- their 50 weights the same as spin fisher 4500 pretty much but holds 325 of 30# braid vs the 205 on the battle 4000 and similar on spin fisher. Suggestions?? I'm stumped!

Will the 5500 be a good match for an 11ft rod designed to throw up to 2oz spoons and plugs? I want to put 20# braid on it, the rod is designed to throw light plugs and spoons a long way for targeting game fish off the beach. Since this reel is water resistant it seems to be ideal for that application, just wondering about the size compared to an 11ft rod and also weather it's a good choice for 20lb braid.
@jandhtackle10 жыл бұрын
I would jump up to the 6500. It's a better match. Also, increase the braid to 40 lb to reduce wind knots.

Hey Josh, I have a 5500 and about 1/10 casts I get a wind knot... it drove me nuts and the other day some guy on the pier told me that some of the ssv reels are not balanced properly, which causes these knots??? He also said that penn will send me a new reel if I contact them and explain the issue. Do you know anything about this problem? I have tried a number of different brand lines (all braid) and different sizes with no luck. Thanks, TT
@jandhtackle10 жыл бұрын
Don't listen to guys on piers. That is completely untrue. The best lb test to reduce wind knots is 40 lb. How high are you spooling the line on the spool?
@tunatom602110 жыл бұрын
I just spooled it up with 30# super slick and the guy who spooled it filled it to the MAX! I pulled probably 100 yards off and it seems to be better
@jandhtackle10 жыл бұрын
tuna tom Next time you spool it, use 50 # braid and don't spool it so high. This should eliminate your wind knots.
