Heavy like the old ones, but sturdy af! In Italy they are used for ultra heavy spinning (tuna) and live bait predator fishing

They have a similar use here. Thanks for sharing - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle as we discussed before, this Is not suitable for european surf casting: too heavy and this Is not a long cast spool. If you are interested, just watch some UK or italian surfcasting videos

Happy New Year Dennis. If you take your rubber band and make a loop with the band, you can capture the line in the loop and then place onto the spool, No more lose end falling out. I think I told you mid last year, I picked up up a couple of Spinfisher VI9500 and VI6500 reels. Build quality was spotty, with one of the 9500 reels absolutely dry inside and a few small metal chips inside the 6500. For the price I paid, it was worth the purchase and the hour to service all 4 reels. Have you had a chance to service any IRT spinning reels? One of the few designed and manufactured spinning reels made in America. From what I've seen for pricing, they are in line with the Penn Authority Chinese made reel. Anyhow, may 2025 be a good year for you and 2nd Chance Tackle.

Happy New Year! That's a good tip with the rubber band. I've had some issues with the build quality of Penn reels lately, particularly the pinion gear shafts. I have not done any work on the IRT reels. I am going to check those out - Thanks again - Dennis

This must be a dependable & popular Reel you see quite a few of them ...

Yes - they have been around in various versions since the 1960s and are both reliable and popular - Thanks Bobby

have you serviced an okuma tesoro 10s
@2ndChanceTackle24 күн бұрын
I have not worked on any of these yet. Most of those reels are still under warranty and any failure is handled by Okuma. I will add this to my list of video requests and try to do one in the future. - Dennis

Hi Dennis, Is there some technical reason for having a no-trip bail? Thanks again.
@2ndChanceTackle24 күн бұрын
Yes. Less stress on the parts and less chance of reel failure. There is only a return spring in the manual bails and when you flip it for casting and return, you are eliminating the issues with trip levers, springs and other failure points. Thanks for asking - Dennis

It seems like Penn likes to go basic and others go just the opposite? Anyway good video.///bill

I believe its just marine grade brass halcion was metal alloy gear used by Olympic years ago
@2ndChanceTackle12 күн бұрын
My error - I was thinking of the Hagane gears used by Shimano. I think you are right - it may be brass. Penn does not say the material. It only features CNC cut gears but not what they are made from. Thanks

also do you have any experience with a Finnor 12/0 trigear reel?

I do not. Thanks for asking - Dennis

Heyyyyy Dennis! H-100 drag washers....when they go bad or wear out, do they lose their cross hatch appearance? What actually dictates replacement please? Thanks kindly!!
@2ndChanceTackle24 күн бұрын
Yes, they lose the cross-hatching and that causes slip. It's like sandpaper that wears and loses it ability to get the job done. If you see the crosshatch wear with flat spots, it is time to replace them - Thanks for asking - Dennis

One of my Penn slammer gear cracked while trying to land a cow nose ray in sandy hook nj. Very disappointed in the cheap quality of the gear.

Wow - I have seen some pinion gear fails on these and Batle reels, but not the main. Sorry to hear that - Dennis
