I think Penn State's second half adjustment, specifically for defense, proves that the issue was not being properly prepared for this game. I think this will light a fire under Penn State, and they won't underestimate opponents like this again this season. I think this was a great game for an attitude adjustment for the team, but I hated it as a Penn State fan.

If this offense performance and defensive performance is Penn State's floor, and I believe that it is, then this is a National Championship contender. Unless I see issues against Kent State or Illinois and UCLA, I am not coming close to panicking.

That 2nd half defensive effort was very promising. Bouncing back like that after sleepwalking in the 1st half. Nice to see the adjustments and flipping a switch like giving up 80 yards and 3 points.

I completely agree with you that this is our floor. This was just a combination of things that all combined to us having a really bad performance. We already played much better than this against a better team this year. I’m not really worried.

PSU's secondary's lack of communication in the 1st half and the losss of KJ Winston attributed to many of the big plays in BG's passing game. The big run BG broke off was also attributed to PSU's front seven not being ready to get lined up properly. Take it for what it's worth there were some headset issues which also could've caused them not getting the calls into the Mike LB properly. Bottom line is the team needs to get a bunch of things cleaned up during the bye week or they're in for a rude awakening when they start B1G play.

It seems like, across college football, the NIL transfer situation where a team can literally have 30-40+ players coming and leaving each year, will lead to a much less certain season ahead. hard to predict what teams and what players will really perform week to week. The PSU offense looked similar at times to last season, where it was like "dive right, dive left, throw on 3 and 7, punt"... ultimately PSU's running backs are athletic enough that they broke through anyway. Seemed like when Beau and Drew were in working together it added a lot of nuance to the offense. 44 was the MVP all day long for PSU. Bro is a monster with speed and hands. Allar needed him, badly, this game. Franklin was constantly on the periphery of all the huddles on the sideline, defense and offense. It seems like he's letting his coordinators coach and he just kind of is observing. But at some point JF is the CEO of the team and needed to light a fire, did not see that.
@billwalter9917Ай бұрын
One of the best comments I’ve seen on this PSU squad. Especially regarding Franklin NOT being involved with sideline activity. He’s an overseer. Remember how Saban would dive into the sideline huddle when things would be going sideways. Belichik - same with his “do your job” rants. The only time I see him get involved is when the team makes “that big play” and he jumps around like a schoolboy.

Penn state gave up less than 100 yards in the second half. Major green flag for me. The offense was atill explosive but shot themselves in the foot. BGSU came to play!!! However with how well the Offense was playing i wasnt panicking but nervous. As PSU fan i believe they just didn't think BGSU would come in and do that. Their QB was on fire and their WRs made some great catches. Give credit to BGSU they may be bett3r than what people expect. I need a few games to panic. Cause destorying q p5 team on the road then playing a sleepy half isnt enough for concern YET. I assume winston jr leavinf game early they had to move Dbs around and figure things out (which they did). Im not sure rhey know the guys behind the starters in the DB room. But im sure theyll have it fixed. We Are. Should be unbeaten heading into the coliseum vs USC. I think they will he favored as well. Keep your head up with UM Sam. Im rooting for you guys vs USC.

I sort of commented this another video, and I know you've said about as much as well, but this year is just like that Billy Beane meme: There's Ohio State way at the top, midrange contenders like Penn State, Michigan, Nebraska, and Iowa, and then there's the rest of the Big Ten. I fully expect Ohio State to be undefeated, unfortunately, but if the Big Ten conference didn't shut down divisions last summer, I think the west teams would've started upending everything. If Ryan Day ever steps down or gets fired, chaos will ensue. Yes, Penn State is probably the most likely successor, but they are weak enough that the old west division schools like Iowa, Minnesota, and now Nebraska could mess up a lot of stuff between 2025 and 2028. Of course, Michigan will rebuild, OSU will go get themselves a proper successor to Ryan Day, but the east's stronghold is in danger. Of course, Day is still the coach right now, and I doubt his seat is THAT hot, but the what if scenarios are coming to life.

This game was a fluke. And don't get me wrong, I was freaking out while it was happening, but it was VERY flukey. Literally from the start of the day in central PA not just the game...rained all night and all morning, stopped and the sun came back out like right at kick off. Very sleepy day, I had kind of an oddly bad feeling about it from the start. Post "big game" hangover from wvu, and then it didn't help that Bowling Green was absolutely ON FIRE for the first half. Baelzak their QB looked like a first round pick out of absolutely nowhere, it was really bizarre. Their Oline is huge too. I'm hoping it was just "one of those things" and a fluke, and I'm pretty sure it was. In a way I'm kind of glad they got this early scare in a game in which they did get the W. Also, this theme was really "going around" last Saturday...wasn't just PSU.

I think this game also speaks to Franklin’s consistent habit of playing down to/underestimating his competition. Watching Penn State games for almost a decade he seems to have this issue more than you would like whether it is against Northwestern, Illinois, or Indiana the last couple years. This then has an impact on the players on what is a very talented roster. Might even be a factor when they finally take games seriously against Ohio State or Michigan since it’s their first time taking the their matchup at an appropriate proper level while those two, and other ranked teams for that matter, thanks to their coaches are used to playing at a high standard or have the attitude of “this is a college football team, we need to take this seriously given every game matters.” Very early and the a lot of ranked teams struggled in Week 2, but year after year after year of seeing this from Franklin makes me sit back think this is the same old story

Young man. I'm not happy that watching PSU's game w/WVU, we benefited from a clear off. pass interference, & a clear fumble by Beau! 3 bad snaps eclipsed WVU from rushing for over 100 yards, whereby I saw them moving the ball! I ❤️ coach, but he made too much of player availability in our bowl game, many having the same problem. Our off. lines h/not been up to par for years. I respect them though. Let's take one game at a time, not taking Illinois or any team lightly.
