It was definitely a weird game, if you had told me before the season that by game 3 almost all of my offensive line questions would be taken care of and it would be d line that was looking sus I definitely would have laughed you off but here we are. Im not sure if its just the game starting to pass Larry Johnson by or he really is having an ego match with Jim Knowels but theres clearly a disconnect between the line play and the rest of the defense in that game. Johnson has always been a bit of a control freak with his room but at this point it is more just extreme stubnorness. He refuses to use anything other than 4 down linemen, his rotations are nonexistent to questionable and it has forced several players into positions they just are not built for. CJ Hicks being the prime example, by all player and coach accounts he is the best pass rusher on the team and a prototypical Baron Browning/Micah Parsons stand up edge but when he gets in the game he is asked to be an off ball LB and looks lost, slow and a wasted body out there. They wasted Browning's talent at OSU and it drives me mad they are making the same mistake again when that change could be a huge boost. As far as the offense goes I cannot say enough good things about the way Chip Kelly has rejuvenated the rushing attack, Henderson looks like a completely different back, is finally hitting holes with power instead of always dancing around trying to bust a home run and Judkins is the real deal. Most importantly though the line is moving people, and even the WRs have been blocking their asses off again. A lot can be said about the level of competition but I have watched every buckeye game for the last 20 years and even against the lesser opponents I don't remember a RB having well over 10 YPC in a game the last couple seasons let alone 2.

I disagree, Ohio State is playing it safe and trying to get the men all running on the same pace. As soon as conference play starts look for Ohio State to run on all cylinder's. They will step it up and do believe in a big way. These men are hungry and focused and I know damn well Michigan is on notice!!!!!

Sam, I appreciate your commentary but the OSU d-line will be fine Marshall had a good game plan to take the buckeyes d-line out of the equation. running out of 10 personnel and releasing passes under 3 seconds. They did loose gap discipline early which was the reason for their ability to run, however Marshalls QB paid the price. For the second time out of 3 games the Starting QB has not finished the game.

Ohio states biggest issue is there linebackers IMO. The defensive line played a bad game for sure but Ohio State linebackers arent reacting fast enough.

MSU was lucky to beat a pretty bad Maryland team, this is not a good team, Chiles inexperience is showing. Their next 5 games are all but un-winnable they are looking like a 4 win team. But to be fair MSU fans were being silly thinking a change of coach and an inexperience QB would be enough to turn the team around in 1 season., you have to give the new HC a few season to turn them around.

Iowa State did destroy Arkansas State, and I think that they did because they were +2 in turnovers (as opposed to Michigan who was -2) and have a balanced offense.

Considering the conditions, we were without 4 starting WR's. Some important defensive players injured. On the road, young team, new coach, and made some mistakes. And still only lost by 4. I think we'll be fine

This is the first time in a couple years that I can put the full blame of a game on one singular player. Chiles threw this game away, there is no question about that. The defense played a complete 4 quarter game and earned a win, and Chiles just had to play mistake free to take home a win, but Chiles couldn’t help but make bone headed throws to lose the game. The two picks before the final drive were the most alarming to me. Jack Velling was wide open on both looks, running a 5 yard slant over the heart of the field and he misses one throw 2 feet in front of him, and the second throw 2 feet behind him. That can’t happen, Spencer Petras makes that throw. Another big issue I noticed was the 3 wide open touchdowns Chiles missed to Montorie Foster Jr. Montorie Foster was wide open all day, burning BC’s secondary, and Chiles simply refused to hit him when he had 5-10 yards of separation. Michigan State played a game where they should have won by 20, and their QB decided they were losing. I have faith in Chiles, and even more in the staff, but if Chiles throws another 2-3 picks and no TD’s against OSU, a tough call needs to be made about how to win games this year. Tommy Schuster is a mystery box, but he has pedigree and experience, Chiles doesn’t. All in all I agree with pretty much all your takes, other than not assigning more blame to Chiles, because the coaching and overall team won this game, and Chiles lost it.

Using these great RBs out of the backfied in the passing game is key. Last OC wasted their talent. Putting Singleton and Allen in passing routes is a nighmare for defenses. They are very touch to cover and have decent hands. Puts a lot of pressure on the defense, which was not really tried last year.

Fosters one big drop was on a terribly thrown ball he had to full extension lay out for, that’s a QB issue. Montorie was so wide open this game he looked like Calvin Johnson, and Chiles did nothing with that but make mistake after mistake
