Pennsylvania Station minus the Sylvania. Mostly the LIRR concourse, new waiting room, ticket windows, game arcade, main corridor and 8th Avenue Subway entrance. Taken during modernization project that was completed in 1994. Interim air-conditioning units had been installed prior to the full renovation. The railroad maintains the new finishes in good condition, considering the length of time and heavy traffic.

Kind of amazing how many retail operations were active in the LIRR terminal back then. Bars, restaurants, an arcade, newsstands. It was like an underground city.

I used to frequent this spot on my way to my first summer job in 1992 and it was the year that Mortal Kombat was released! My local arcade was at the Chinatown Fair. Great footage bring back old memories!

I had a job in Manhattan in 1993 I can remember the smell of Penn Station watching this video

Whoa, for some reason I remember when that new LIRR waiting room opened up but I don't recall the larger renovations. Great video...jarred loose a lot of memories!

OMG!! I remember all those vendors in Penn station i use to work right a cross the street (the Pennsylvania Building) during luch time!! Thanks for posting this video.

I hung out at that video arcade back in the summer of 1985 when they had a music video jukebox! It was good to see it again.

Nobody stopped me. I moved on voluntarily. And really it did look odd how I was holding a shot for an extended period.

lol i knew by the bathrooms someone was gonna say something sure enough the guy did walk up to you that was the year of the first wtc bombing i bet people were on edge back then

I remember the arcade. playing pit fighter in there everyday before getting on LIRR to go home...man the good ole days

Wow, the memories. Use to hang out in that arcade after work. I too use to love to play 'Hard Drivin'. I learned how to drive stick on playing that game! Bought my first SUV, a Montero stick shift, not long after mastering that game.

How do you think they got the p72 Pullman coaches into Penn Station? The diesel trains around that time were too big to fit into the tunnels.

What used to be in the waiting room before it was a waiting room? Was it a waiting room in the old old penn station? It's so hard to find media of new penn station from before 2000. Its too bad you don't have any other videos before or after the renovations here. It doesn't look that different to what penn station looks like today.
