Leonard meant well but this makes it seem like he never understood Penny's insecurity. Penny wanted to make sure that she had a way to provide for herself. If he's basically doing her work for her, that's not exactly helping her build a sense of independence. And some of this was about Leonard's ego and him wanting to feel useful, and academics is his wheelhouse. He couldn't help himself.

I see both sides. On one hand, Leonard obviously should have let Penny do the paper on her own. Even if she got a low grade, that’s how you learn to look at where you failed and do better next time. On the other hand, I know he meant well because I’ve been there. School was always my thing and I never felt like I had a purpose otherwise, so helping people with their schoolwork was how I showed I cared for them (and how I reminded myself that I’m useful). In short, yeah, it was wrong of Leonard to overstep, but I get where he’s coming from.

Amen in that last remark. Can I recommend something to you that I believe you’ll LOVE? In it, there’s a moment where Penny gets an A+ all by herself without cheating, and Leonard doesn’t really technically help her, but she is influenced by him and he tells her he’s proud of her. You’ll LOVE IT.

@@dustbunny4527 It was still bad writing. Penny said she hated her job, and I had hoped that it would foreshadow her quitting at a certain point in the show, but no. They went the opposite route of Chandler Bing and made her remain in a job she hates. Furthermore, this new job only made her treat Leonard even WORSE than she already was, and Penny, much like her actress, slowly becomes a really bad woman/wife. Kaley has issues. Penny is slowly becoming at combination of Beverly and Bernadette.

These are some of the reasons why they never went well with each other. She was insecure to tell (him) because he didn't think she'll be able to finish. Things tgat they both did together in making this relationship work..

This storyline; for this episode specifically was a perfect example of Leonard’s insecurities being an issue in their relationship: Penny decided to go back to school on her own terms, Leonard panicked thinking that she’d quit and leave (which she did) and rewrote her entire paper when as she said to him whether she passed or failed all had to happen because she put the work in and did it herself. Penny seemed to be the reasonable one but then her insecurity showed her up in the end and proved that she was a hypocrite because she used Amy and Bernadette’s brains to get her a B- on the paper to shove in Leonard’s face. What Amy said about them being the weirdest couple might be perceived as irony, but I wouldn’t say that she doesn’t have a point - their relationship was rife with issues.
