3:31:05 Bowser's Fury is actually my favorite Mario game. I can get the entire experience of a whole ass really good Mario in like an hour, with great shmovement and genuinely the best flowing, just absolute cleanest level design. It ain't a tough game, it ain't a long game, it doesn't even do many things other 3-D Marios don't, but it does it all flawlessly

The premise of this game kinda rubs me the wrong way. Like, penny cuts in line (dick move), then commits crimes, and then runs away. Yes the punishment is excessive, but it feels weird. Edit: oh I see, we play as the bad guy. That’s why the first boss is someone unquestionably in the right. Edit again: this game’s story sucks honestly.

Eh, feels like the story isn't meant to be all that deep. Penny herself didn't do anything wrong, the yo-yo seems to have a mind of its own, should she get her sentence lifted I'm sure she wouldn't do any more crimes. At least it's not saving a princess from a castle

I'm okay with that. She's a mischief maker, same as Mickey Mouse or Felix the cat. Kind of a dick move, but not done with malicious intent. She was just more focused on getting what she wants than caring about how it would affect others. She's even legitimately upset when she realizes that she hurt the captain. As for the story... Yeah it's not great. I don't think it needs to be, though. It's really just there to explain why you're running through these levels. It's not very deep

My problem is that it's not even clear where she's going. At first she's just running away from the palace, then she hitches a ride on a ship like she's fleeing the kingdom entirely to start a new life somewhere that she's not a wanted felon, but then there's still penguins everywhere and then she runs INTO the emperor, like did the captain trick her by circling back around and dropping her off at a different port? There's just enough story that it feels like it would have been better off without one at all. Just, here are a bunch of levels to run through, it's a game, shut up, you don't need a reason to kick the baseball through the other team's basket, do you?
