Penpal is unlike any other creepypasta, it has always stood out to me. The fact that this is a very real thing that can happen to anyone is what makes it truly terrifying, no supernatural, no beasts, just a very real monster. Great narration as always and props to the writer as well. Always looking forward to the next story!

This one is a truly sad story. To imagine that two families got destroyed so wrongly just because the wrong person was at the wrong time and became obsessed with a young kid. To imagine that none of that would have happened if the teacher came up with a different activity or if the wind blew the ballons/letters in another direction. It was just bad luck. Horrible luck.
@KimiNoNiichanАй бұрын
Actually, I don’t think it was the balloons that started the conflict. It was the very beginning story, where the boy woke up in the woods. The note had said the boy was running away and that it turned out that it was written by someone else-the obssessed man. But that’s what I didn’t like about this whole series. It’s a really good series, but it gets me so angry that the boy’s mother had not once called the cops on the obsessed man. I mean, creepy man eating animals underneath your house and taking stalking pictures. How can you not call the cops? Instead, she chose to run away. She knew ALL along, and one phone call to the police would have saved the lives of his cat, his best friend, and his best friend’s sister. (I am not quite sure if he had a hand in killing the old woman but it’s a possibility?) Anyway, his mom was SO irresponsible and did not do the right thing. I can understand that she may have been scared, but jesus christ. I hate her. She didn’t want to tell the boy’s best friend’s dad the truth even when he found his son’s dead body with the pretext of it wouldn’t help the situation. While I agree it would not help, I think she’s only saying that to save her own ass. She really could have called the cops.. or she could’ve told someone.. but she never did.. SMH. Still such a great story nonetheless lmao.
@SirForcEdgeАй бұрын
@KimiNoNiichan i believe the events of footsteps happened after the events of balloons. Balloons was the start of all of this, how the killer knew who the MC was and where to find him via the postage on the letter. then he began stalking him, killed ms. Maggie to be closer to him, and then eventually putting him in the forest and leaving a fake runaway letter on his pillow. But i agree the mom and the MC were both horrible at communicating, and the MC led his friend into extremely dangerous situations despite his mother's warnings.

I was happy when their friend told them at the graveyard that they were just going through a psychotic breakdown, because that made so much more sense than what the story had crumbled to at that point. I don't get scared really but I think my spookiest moment was realizing Veronica wasn't texting him. Probably just because I was so happy protag was getting something good. The whole thing reminds me of Stephen Kings motto: Kill your darlings. Josh was a true friend, a loved friend, so he had to die in the end. Veronica was beautiful beyond words, sweet with a good sense of humor and accepting of the protag. She needed to die. I am not a fan of Steven King really, I find his writing weak and his tropes over recycled. But this story was poignant. There was a point. A purpose. Unlike King making a sweet beautiful character just to kill them for no reason.

SPOILERS It's my first time listening to this story. I'm quite confused about the pool stuff, it's the biggest puzzle piece that doesn't fit. Also, chapter one is about waking up in the woods and running back to home. And later the place where the MC woke up is dug up, implying he was supposed to be buried there like his friend was at the end. But I cant get past why he woke up and was able to just run around and back home. And I'm 100% aware that it was written one episode at a time and the writer didn't have the full story in his mind as he was creating his world. Is the book worth reading? I'm curious as to what changes and whats the same, I'd probably buy it anyway just to support Auerbach, the story is fantastic and kept me intriged from beginning to end, that's why I have questions, usually I just brush them off on mid stories, but this was so great that I LONG FOR MORE.

This is a few days late but I finally listened to it in full. It honestly just was something that really hit home with me. I'm somebody with a very awful and brutal childhood- one where even now I'm still connecting the pieces and the orders and trying to make sense of everything. It's kind of cathartic to see it in a story- and it really has made me emotional as well. Trying to make sense of the horrible things that may have happened in your childhood and learning that everything was connected is just awful. It has such a specific feeling and experience that it's hard to be explained well to people who haven't ever experienced it. So seeing someone put it into a story like this is just really rare. It's a depressing story but I like it a lot.

That was an amazing story and your sound design was incredible (especially the piano outro). That ending was brutal and really brings home the fact the horror is *not* supernatural. I think that's why this one stuck with me; it was not an out-of-left-field where-did-*this*-come-from type thing I've read in other stories. The ending leaves quite a bit unanswered but not in a plot-hole way. I agree the stalker was making Josh into a stand-in for the younger version of the protagonist (complete with the kid's clothes that were unboxed & hung back up in the closet). As for the pool float; I think it was the perfect non-sequitur. As a kid walking around in the woods, you find all kinds of crazy, unexplained debris. But having something instantly recognizable that keeps popping up where it shouldn't is genuinely terrifying. Like those stories where the narrator tries to get rid of a cursed object and it's right back on their dresser like nothing happened. I'm probably a rarity among your audience in that I don't use Reddit and was not really acquainted with creepypastas until relatively recently (mostly through review channels on KZbin and your dramatic readings). So I don't come with the nostalgia some of your other regulars have. But I will say this; I saw "The thing in the basement is getting better at mimicking voices" in my algorithm, gave it listen, and have been here ever since.

ok it’s just a story and it’s only mentioned once but I have to say it DONT. DECLAW. YOUR. CATS. It’s not just permanently clipping there claws, it’s like cutting of your finger at the first joint. Declawing a cat will cause them permanent pain while walking, along with a high risk of infection. Ps: the story and narration are amazing as always :D
@kattriella1331 Жыл бұрын
People never seem to actually research what "declawing" is before they have it done. It's literally amputating part of the cat's toes. If a person can't handle the fact that cats WILL claw furniture, then they don't need to have a cat. People who nonchalantly say they got their cat declawed like it's the equivalent of getting their nails clipped make me so mad . . . And sad. Sad for the cat.

I had a cat my parents had declawed for 14 years. He was healthy, big for his runt of the litter status, was agile and able, and never, not once had any infection due to that procedure. I'm not saying it's right or defending it, but it's important to relay information that is factual and not over inflate what can happen because it's scary. Positive outcomes should be a part of your data set.
