Thanks so much for performing another of my stories, my friend. I'm so lucky to have someone as talented as you interested in performing my work. Another fantastic rendition! I've told you the story, but I'll repeat it here for your viewers. The kernel of this story is based on a real experience. I once had a great friend, a real gentle giant who sadly was deeply and profoundly affected by paranoid schizophrenia. One day, when my friend was doing well and was out walking his dog, he walked over a bridge in Kings Park, Glasgow. As he was walking above the isolated train station, he heard a voice say his name from one of the shadowy arches of the bridge and utter the words 'down here'. This happened twice, and he didn't wait for a third time. He ran back home terrified with his dog. Even though he was certain it was a hallucination, he always wondered what he would have found, or what would have found him, if he had gone down there beneath the bridge. ~ Mike

The train station alcove was where Eric’s mind pictured his demons. He must have felt immense guilt for betraying his friend, and that guilt manifested itself through hallucinations of his inner demons. And he manifested those demons in the dark alcove that representing his memories of the writer. They visited several other brighter train alcoves as kids, and those were fond memories. So his guilt lived in the dark train recess and it was too much for him to bear so it killed him. What really killed him was the storm, but his inner demons manifested so powerfully, even the writer sees a glimpse of them recess. Powerful stuff

I always keep this critical understanding of story telling in the back of my head, you need to maintain an atmosphere, a constant feeling, a theme to your story, being it horror, romance, adventure or any other genre, you need to get this done as soon as possible and maintain it until the last word. That's why I like narrations that use sound effects, just like the knocking at the doors you put on this vídeo, this teleports us to the mind of the main character's friend, it is crucial to envelop the listener into the words that are being said, to feel just like our characters. I'm always telling horror stories to kids, they come to my home just to listen, and every single time that I manage to maintain this atmosphere of horror and mystery you can be sure that the kids won't be going to sleep all that well that night, this even works with adults, the fear and horror inside a narration or writing is many times scarier then any movie ever could.

The longer life goes on, the more I'm shown how everyone has their own unique grasp on their own reality. For each person out there, there is a separate distinct sane reality. Talking to those who think disabled people's lives arent worth the same as someone who is not...is one experience that has shown me this is true. I relate to Eric so much. Shouting at others to believe you when there's a threat for them to doubt you because their perception of reality is incongruent with a reality where that threat would exist. Eric was just unlucky enough to happen upon where that threat lurked. Thankfully Eric had someone to look after him for some time. Imagine how many saw that thing and didnt get away at all.

I would say "remake 'something goes whistling past my house every night at 3:03'" but tbh it's already perfect as is, one of my absolute favs. Short and spooky, ive listened to it TONS of times

First of all, WOW! Great job on the remake! This has always been one of my favorites. I love the stories where you can never be quite sure if there is really something paranormal going on or if someone is actually 'just' suffering from a mental illness. Probably bias on my part, super relatable and all lol. I definitely need to know if/when Michael gets back to you with that info. Also, what Eric was saying before he died! I know this particular author likes to use actual 'monsters' most of the time, but for some reason this really gives me a 'foreshadowing/time loop' kinda vibe? Like the smoke/figure and the "Down here" quote are somehow connected to these two friends and their past playing in that location as children, having this sorta friend break-up as adults, Eric going through his mental struggles, and everything coming back around to the two of them ending up there at the end where Eric saves his friend and gets himself killed in the process? And he's frantically yelling something that we don't get to ever know? Hmmm... anyone following my math on this? Lmao. Maybe Eric was yelling something to his friend about getting "down there" etc. so he wouldn't get hit by the tree? Maybe following that thing up into that dark archway area allowed him to see what was really going on/what was going to happen? Lmao idk, I probably sound just as crazy as Eric, but it's the direction I'd take if I were the author of this story. That's why I love this guy though, he leaves things open-ended and unexplained so the reader can decide/interpret for themselves. The best kind of writing, really; especially when it comes to horror. 100/10

Love the stories, man. I listen here and on Spotify. Wish I could do narration, too. seems fun to be able to tell a story to others as you do. Keep it up and hope for more interesting listens in the future!

I just coincidentally relistened to the old Down Here last week, I thought the atmosphere even back then with the thunder storm and empty house was good before, but I can tell I'm going to love it even more now! I knew there was a difference in your voice back then, but I always assumed it was an equipment thing. This is a good representation of how far you've come technologically and as a narrator, I'm sure I'm not the only one to count it as a privilege to hear you read every week. As for remasters, have you considered " A Scarecrow For God" for you and Romnex? And a personal favorite, the first one I ever heard from you "Why I Don't Do Drugs Anymore". That would be an awesome opportunity to flex your sound design muscles. Hope you have a great weekend brother!

I knew I recognized the title. I've only been a listener for the last year and change, but I've gone through a lot of stories at work in that time. You've helped make my days go faster, and work that much less monotonous. Sometimes it's hard to remember what stories I've listened to until I start listening again, and in most cases I just let them play again cause they're so good. Thanks for redoing this classic.

@@Darksomnium Enjoying is an understatement. I found you first, so it was hard for any others to compare. I really love the way you do the stories, and especially how they're more than just you reading, they're audio dramas. That is really what put's you at the top!
