When you live in a CITY (Houston), just seeing so much open land with some pretty blue sky IS refreshing-thanks ❤

I'm so glad that you kept the same music! I love that trombone!!! I love the dash cam videos, I'm from Indiana where there are nothing but fields, but the fields are so flat and I love the hills, the color of your soil, and the natural prairie. Thank you for sharing your neck of the woods. Good Luck on your trip!!!

The first time I heard that music, I knew it was perfect for me. I'm glad you're enjoying my part of the Great Plains. Here too there are a lot of fields, but SW North Dakota is much more rugged than many parts of this part of the US.

Glad you are doing better! As always, an enjoyable selection of pens and inks. Hoo boy! Dealing with a group of teens on a long road trip. Can completely sympathize! I'd driven a bus for my church, back when I was under the dark power of the Hyles camp independent fundamental Baptist church I was trapped in for decades. Around 6 hours, stopping for fuel and a girl getting sick, and the 'youth pastor' didn't help with volume control. (And listening to a now known 'pdf file' giving a frankly questionable sermon on 'Polishing the Shaft.'🙄)

It was 6 hours each way with a night in a motel in the middle. Fortunately they mostly controlled their volume and I had almost 12 hours of reading time, plus the time at the motel. Having seen a few youth pastors in action, I think the kids treat me better. I don't know if it's the age gap or my personality. And, that kind of sermon title should be an obvious no to anyone who knows teenagers!

Love the shading on the Omas Grey, Herbin blue, and the Noodler's Roses! And that Lamy Turquoise is gorgeous. And yes, dashcams are worth their weight in gold. I have one on both vehicles.

You cited some of my favorites! I haven't needed a dash cam since that day, but I've heard enough horror stories that I'm glad I have it...even if I weren't using it for driving videos.

Love the Shaeffer Legacy's I or II or Heritage. In India (I was there in February) everyone honks virtually all the time. It's not done in anger, though -- think of it as traffic sonar!

I’m using some Diamine’Jack Frost’ (Inkvent series) with sheen. Very nice- just shake the bottle first. I also bought a bottle of Lamy Dark Lilac to see what all the fuss is about. Meh - just a dark purple. Monteverde Mandarin orange is a nice bright one. I usually toot people who don’t use turn signals- do better next time people. Think about others.
@WaskiSquirrel

I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've used my horn: usually with animals. My feeling on horn use is that people don't know why they're getting honked at. I've heard horns and wondered what I did and questioned myself over and over. And, when I do mess up, I do know it, so the horn doesn't help. I remember being a new driver stopped on a hill with a honker behind me and I was panicking as I tried to operate the clutch and brake. I was ready to give up driving that day!

@@WaskiSquirrel Blasting your horn at someone is counterproductive. A short toot may have the effect of making someone think about what they did wrong to earn it. Either way you can't take anything for granted when driving. It's so bad here they're putting up cameras to detect people using cell phones on freeways,a major distraction and causing accidents. Fines are heavy but people still do it. Also a lot of big potholes on 100kmh country roads in Victoria that aren't being repaired.

21:10 I think auto horn manufacturers should had a hi honk in the mix, for drivers to politely get another's attention.
@WaskiSquirrel

It would add some nuance to the honk.

Wow! Your monterosa has a crack in the grip section, so does mine! I have a red one and just sent it off to Joel in Alamogordo for repair (keeping my fingers crossed). I only noticed the crack after I kept getting inky fingers! I hope you’ll get yours fixed! 🙌🏻🖋 and I love the Omas grey, I own sepia and green and yes, beautiful bottles!

Intarsia does not mean fingernail. Intarsia refers to the fine woodworking inlay art of marquetry. It also refers to a knitting technique. The etymology of the word points to it being derived from the Latin interserere, to insert.
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel 3 ай бұрын
Good point. A more correct way of explaining this would have been to call these fingernail nibs (due to shape) or intarsia because they are inlaid.

The Parker Duofold is so much better looking, than either of the Montblancs.

My condolances for the cracked Monte Rosa! I don’t think you caused it. My best guess is that there was already in the manufacturing some incompatibility between materials used, for example shrink factor of the plastic versus the feed and (tubular)nib. I never had a pen section crack on me when it was black, or very darkly colored. In the three cases when the catastrophe of spontaneus section cracks struck, they were vintage pens in ivory white, or light grey. The black pigment of early plastics can have a reinforcing effect, or so it seems, from my anecdotal but consistent experience. I tried to repair each and everyone of the cracks with different methods, but never succesfully.

I was able to find a new grip section, to my surprise. I'll experiment with crack repair on the old section. You made some good suggestions as to why it might have cracked. Vintage manufacture had some limitations. And I always wonder what will come up with modern pens.

I have to say the Montblanc 332 (EF) gets a very big "Wow" from me. Such a beautiful performing nib with amazing line variation. I was sorry when you discovered the crack on the Monte Rosa. Such a pity but hopefully the pen is still useable. One thing that interested me was how different Omas Black looked in the first two pens. It was a deep black with the medium nib (Sheaffer) and a somewhat lighter shade of black in the Lamy (with EF nib). Is it an optical illusion that a wider line with the same ink looks darker? I don't know.
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel 3 ай бұрын
The 332 is incredible, especially with its story. Yes, the Monte Rosa is usable. It's not leaking through the cracks. I found a new section, so now I might experiment with crack repair. You're right about the Omas Black. I do see that it looked darker in the Sheaffer, but I think that's because that pen laid down more ink. It also showed more shading in that pen.

I have two Montblanc 221s, both of which have replacement section hoods due to their cracking, just like your Monte Rosa. Wonder if it's a common occurrence? Really will have to get some Lamy Turquoise after seeing how well it works. Best wishes from the mulga.

It's sad to hear about the cracking. The deterioration in vintage pens is one of the disappointments of vintage collecting. I see it in typewriters as well. Yes, Lamy Turquoise is wonderful ink, and quite low cost!

Good morning from Portugal. Loved the video, as always, but don't you think it was kind of dark?

The writing was darker than I like. I need to reset the camera to deal with the longer days: for the next few months I won't be able to film under perfectly controlled lighting conditions unless I want to stay up really late or get up really early. I adapt every summer, but it usually takes a few videos...
