Wow, wow, and wow... the comments on panning! Boy did he inspire me to try an experiment. Position your speakers so that they are wider by distance then the distance to your ears, tune with Sonarworks. and your panning will be magnified allowing you to place things with greater detail. I'm going to do this before I add any EQ.

I don't mean to be impertinent but at 12:46 Herb says 'platitudes' I humbly suggest that he mis-spoke and meant to say 'plaudits'. I really enjoyed these two shows with Mr Schmitt. Thank you.

Personal hygiene is so important. It’s so hard to tell a grown man or woman that they’ve got an issue with their body odour. I’ve actually tried this with one guy in particular and they spent over half an hour explaining why they don’t use deodorant because of the aluminium or whatever... Which is fair enough but the person didn’t once mention what the alternative would be... Just followed through with “my friends have never told me this” even though I’ve known dude for over 10 years...... I’ve been advised to buy him an aluminium-free deodorant and gift it to him when we next meet. If he doesn’t take the hint after that I’m pretty much done with getting him in on sessions with new clients... If someone I’ve known for over 10 years told me I had bad breath or body odour I’d seriously look into how to get it sorted because I’d appreciate how hard it was for dude to tell me this in the first place..... *Sigh

No offence to anyone but I don't think I would have watch the full length of this video part 1 and 2 if Al Schmitt wasn't in it love that old man!!!!!!

I have watched three minutes of the exchange. The two hosts are going in all directions; Mr Schmitt is about to describe a set up, he is interrupted and asked about the pre-amps he uses. He lost the idea he wanted to say. Let the man talks, Please!!! I have no more patience with hosts who forget they ask questions for the viewers, not themselves.

Dave - Wondering if you don't mind specifying what songs you mixed on the Justin Timberlake album "Justified"? Not sure how you'll be able to get back to me, but just a big fan of your work and wanted to know how you influenced my childhood.

Ya thats really odd. You can get really meticulous with panning and you can absolutely hear the tiniest movement left or right from center regardless its 80R or 35R or even 12R. Thats all easily hearable and especially useful in dense mixes when panning is the only way to make room for everything happening in a track. Ive worked with engineers that almost act like panning is taboo. Its really painful to get stuck with an idiot like that. I actually had an engineer ask 'Why are you scared to have it sit in the middle?" To which I responded 'Why are you mixing records if you are depth hearing deprived?" Its weird all the little hang-ups some guys have about things you never thought twice about.
