Every ITL has been awesome, but Herb picking Dave's brain for half an hour is absolutely amazing and Dave was on fire in the Batter's Box. Loved this episode!

For anyone who is intermediate looking at a new mic: the mic I use is an Aston Spirit! $449 retail. If you’re looking at an SM7B, it’s pretty much just one step up from that mic. I’ve owned mine for almost a year & ive had tremendous results with it 👍🏼🌟

Hey Dave and Herb. I'm a recording engineer; dancehall, reggae where performances are usually loud. I've found that without some sort of compression on the vox performers arent comfortable and can hear themselves in a stable way. Is this a good practice? Or what would you advise for these situations Rode NT1 DBX1066 Digi 002 Rack

The 2 preamps that Dave mention are Maag Preq4 & Chandler TG2 ... right? 🤔
@realraven20006 жыл бұрын
23:30 how do you hear when the capsule collapses? I sometimes hear "fuzzyness" from the pre-amp and find it hard to set the right threshold for getting rid of it; could this be caused by overdriving the capsule with too much sound pressure (close micing)? 24:40 even when I co-write with my singer I often struggle to get the same openness / consistency in sound. achieving day to day / week to week consistency would be my biggest goal.

I usually agree with Dave, but wholeheartedly disagree with his philosophy on singing with headphones. In the cans you hear what it's going to sound like on the final record. You should absolutely record with headphones, and learn to work it to your advantage like an instrument. Like Sinatra did. Same as a guitar player recording with a big tube amp. Would they listen to their clean tone when they record?
@TheHmm436 жыл бұрын
I think his point was similar; its important to practice with headphones, (and you put it well to say treat them like an instrument) because it's the best method, but people who are not familiar hearing themselves through phones might not be comfortable and then will not be able to deliver as they might normally.
@conorm25246 жыл бұрын
I think more high-end performers should wear their in-ear monitors like they do on live shows. Total noise cancellation too.
