Shine was like a kpop anthem when it was released! Pentagon is so underrated, they're crazy talented and also self-produced. I'd recommend Daisy, Naughty Boy and Basquiat. Different vibes that show their range beautifully. They're my favourite along with Seventeen

Pentagon are great and it's truly a crime that Shine never won any music show awards. Pentagon have always been underrated and wildly underpromoted by Cube. They have great vibes overall and their title tracks are almost always bops.

I am so excited you reacted to Pentagon! They are criminally underrated and deserve so much more recognition! The name Pentagon comes from the 5 elements that an idol must have (singing/rapping, dancing, talent, teamwork, and mind). They debuted in 2016 under CUBE (they are BTOB’s little brothers) with 10 members, but they are now a 9 member group after E’Dawn left. You may notice in some videos there are less than 9 members, because Yanan was on hiatus for a couple of years for health reasons/filming dramas, and 4 of the members have done their military service (Jinho,Hui,Hongseok, and Shinwon (who just started his service)). It’s great that you caught the similarities with Seventeen, because Pentagon is also a self producing group and many of the Pentagon members are friends with Seventeen members! Hui produces most of their songs, but all of the members contribute a lot, especially their giant maknae, Wooseok. Yuto is also the first Japanese rapper in K-pop. They have a very diverse discography, but some songs that I would HIGHLY recommend are Basquiat, Dr.Bebe, Do or not, Daisy, Naughty Boy, and Humpf. Honestly the list could go on and on. They have no bad songs and their B sides are amazing! I hope you’ll give them a chance, because based off your reactions to Seventeen, BTOB, and EXO, I think this group is right up your alley! Also, Kerry, I think you were think of Pentatonix, who are an acappella group from the States.

Kino (the member at 5:57) is actually very close friends with Vernon from Seventeen! They were together in a friends/project group called M.O.L.A. I was Pentagon's fan originally but got into Svt because Kino couldn't stop mentioning him here and there lmao it seems like they hang out a lot😭

oh pentagon definitely could go dark if they wanted to, and they did with dr bebe! they have their fun side as well, and shine just happened to blow up so hard back then :) I still find it quite sad that they’re not very recognised outside of this song, because the members are all so incredibly talented!

The only exposure I've had to Pentagon was while watching Boys Planet, where one of their members (Hui - leader, composer of this song and many others) participated as a contestant. So I can't say I know as much about them as an actual fan would, but seeing this group/Hui makes me happy and melancholic at the same time. This song especially is so great and upbeat and was their biggest hit back in ~2018, I even knew about it without knowing the actual group :) Now it makes me a bit melancholic/nostalgic because, even though they debuted back in 2016, are a pretty beloved group even though they're not one of the biggest, they come from a mid-sized company (Cube), and even had reasonable success (Shine especially was a hit)... the leader of the group still felt like he had to go compete in a survival show as a "trainee" after his military service and already being an idol for 6 years, because he felt like that was his "last chance" to get some recognition from the public and continue his career. It was portrayed as a pretty sad story of a band that had some success years ago, but because the competition is so fierce, people forgot about them and no one even wanted to work with them anymore. Nowadays, only 3 of them are still with Cube and Hui (idk if just him) released a debut solo album after Boys Planet. Don't really know where I'm going with this, don't wanna make you guys sad lol, just explaining why this group makes me feel inherently nostalgic even though I've never been a part of their fandom. I do know they're a great group so it might be nice to check out some more stuff from them :D

At this point, it's actually only Hui, Jinho and Shinwon who _are_ still with Cube; Yeo One, Yanan, Yuto, Kino and Wooseok all left at the same time last October, and Hongseok followed soon after. But they've also said that they _are_ all still Pentagon.

6:25 This is here is Giant Maknae Wooseok (6'2", currently 26), and Tiny Hyung Jinho (5'6", turning 32 in mid-April)... 8:05 There _were_ ten of them, but E'Dawn left a while after this. Now he's just known as Dawn, and is a soloist. Of the remaining nine, most have recently left their label, deciding not to renew their contracts, but they've said Pentagon are indeed still nine. I actually _have_ seen them live... well, most of them, the one time they've come to the UK so far. They were on at the MIK Festival in London in July 2022 (Jinho, Shinwon, Yeo One, Yuto, Kino and Wooseok were in attendance; Yanan was on hiatus, leader Hui and Hongseok were on their military service), and they were actually the main draw that convinced my mum and I to go. And they did _not_ disappoint.

YES! PENTAGON! I'm here for it!!! You'll love them! Dr. Bebe and Daisy are a must, but their titles and b-sides are amazing. They are so underrated and self-produced. Hui is amazing and I think produces a lot of their music and all the guys are talented. Love them! They competed on a few survival shows: As a group they were on Road to Kingdom, Hui was on Boys Planet, and YeoOne is currently on Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival (if he hasn't been eliminated yet).

they also give me a svt vibe in the sense that they are really expressive and experimental! all of the members have acted in movies or musicals before. shine blew up and basically every casual kpop listener knows it but they did soooo much more after! they fell off many people's radars because of poor management and timing but they have my favorite discography in kpop. the boys are so passionate and lovely there's so much to see :D they're still active and i feel like you guys would have fun getting to know them

Pentagon was my second Kpop group. I would clasify their sound as cute like this song (Naughty Boy, Humph!, Do or Not), Darker (Dr BeBe or Basquiat or Feelin' Like) or Moody (Run Away, Daisy, or SHA LA LA) Hui writes most all of their music. Pentagon is one of those groups that should be bigger than they are. They competed on Road To Kingdom and had some really great stages (esp a joint stage with another group I love ONF and covered Blackpink's Kill this Love). They have also been around long enough that some members decided not to resign with the evil CUBE Entertainment. Not sure if they will keep up as a group or go solo, there have been a few solo releases esp Hui with Hmm Bop

I’ve been waiting for you to get to Pentagon!!!!! They’re my favourite group after Exo and they have some amazing music, a lot of which they write and produce themselves. Pls pls pls check out Dr BeBe, Daisy and Like This Edit: just some background on them as a group. Pentagon have some really amazing vocalists, especially Hui and Jinho, Jinho has a KZbin series where he sings covers, including bohemian rhapsody, Bruno Mars and Lay Me Down by Sam Smith (they’re amazing and I strongly recommend). Wooseok and Yuto are a dynamic rap duo just like Chanyeol and Sehun. They started out with 10 members, Dawn (formerly E’dawn, the one who started the song) got kicked out of the group and company when he and Hyuna revealed they were dating, which was against their contracts. Dawn is now a solo artist. The rest of them carried on as nine although their reputation had been damaged by the scandal. Over the last few years the older members have been starting military and not all members renewed with the company, so things are up in the air, a lot of them are looking into solo ventures but they all seem to still want to come back to the group at some point Edit 2: Shine was THE song of 2018, but they haven’t really had a big hit since, mostly because of people wanting to support Dawn over Cube (the company) with Pentagon getting caught in the crossfire, and because Cube is bad at promotion

Another svt connection is that they're a group with a very tight bond AND they're self produced. Hui, their leader and main vocalist, writes a lot of their music, but many of the other members write as well. They were "formed" through a "competition show" (no one else was competing, they were just "competing" for their spots in the group, and they all were given their spots. I think it's similar to skz's formation) and ever since then, they've been very tight-knit. In fact, idk if it was proven or just a rumor but it's believed that one of the reasons Yanan was on hiatus for a long time was that he was still hanging out with E'Dawn (now a soloist was named Dawn) even *after* E'Dawn was kicked out of the company for super bs reasons. (Long story, very stupid dating scandal, the man did nothing wrong) They also recently left their company together but have remained a group of 9! Kinda hoping we get Dawn back but not holding my breath-- it's been 6 years since he left.

The complicated thing is that they didn't all leave together, 3 of them are still under contract with Cube and I don't know how that's gonna work if they plan to continue as 9, but we'll see, I hope it all gets resolved and we get them back as a complete group.

Pentagon have a lot of good songs...Daisy, Dr BeBe, Feelin' like us more on the mature vibe..Do or Not, Humph, ShaLaLa is more on the younger fun vibe..I love them so much. pentagon!!! 😭 whenever i see SHINE i get hit with the feels 🥺 this was the song that would have propelled them to the TOP but then it all just fell apart. and while they did end up winning awards at music shows, they just weren’t able to stand back up with all the members anymore 😢 such a shame because they’re all really legitimate singers and rappers. more than that, they all seemed to have had a good friendship 🥹 anyway! jijirit actually means “loser” or “nerd” hence the nerdy hairstyles and outfits!

Pentagon is no longer a group. They broke up this year. They are so special and have 2 of the best vocalists in the game after DK and Seungkwan of course. Like Seventeen Every member of Prntagon can sing well. Hui and Wooseok wrote mist of their songs. They had two Chinese members and a Japanese member along with their Korean members. Members frequently mention “PENTAGON NEVER DIES” and ask Universe to trust and wait for them. They often do gatherings at someone’s home, supporting solo events, and Hui even said that he will bring other members next time in latest Jinho Hui japan concert. I am not sure about the numbers but PENTAGON will comeback as a group as soon as possible. It’s worth waiting for us and I’m glad you’re interested in them 💙
